catback exhaust & Y pipe recommendations

The stock exhaust on my 95 Maxima GLE is rusting on the bottom and i will need to replace it sooner or later.

Can anyone suggest a good exhaust and Y Pipe?

I looked at warpspeedperformance and budget for the y-pipe.
They pipe comes in two diameters (2.25 and 2.5). Which is preferred?

Ive done the suspension work on the car and have not done any exhaust changes. The only other modification ive done was add a K&N intake.

Thanks

Do you plan on adding a SC in the future? If yes then definitely the 2.5". As far as a muffler, it is more of an aesthetic gain than a performance gain for the price, so find out if you want a higher or lower tone to your exhaust, and go from there. And how do those Maxspeed springs ride?

muffler suggestions for that higher tone?

First of all if he's gonna put on a SCor turbo he'd need a 3" exhaust. 2.5 is what most exhausts are for the maxima so get that. Get a BUDGET y-pipe, it's SS and 2.5"...

When you put the y-pipe on it takes the pre cats out.? Will that throw check engine lights?

If you are looking for the typical Honda Civic high-pitched tone, then you can slap on one of those universal type mufflers from ebay.

yeah DON'T GET a cannister muffler, it will sound like ****. Get a nice big oval muffler for a great growl...

A 3" is not necessarily needed for a S/C unless he's running some crazy boost, a 2.5" will be fine...

You're right but some of the kits sold include 3" exhaust. The guy said that he only needs 2.5" if he has a SC and that's what my comment was to...

A new Y-Pipe won't give you a CEL. The only problem that I've heard with the Y-Pipe is that you will fail smog if your car isn't warmed up enough.

Hey

I have the Warpspeed Y-Pipe, just bought it about three weeks ago, great pipe. Made a world of difference in performance, it pulls alot harder. and it looks real good.

Nice try, I hope our V-6s never sounds like the Honda 4s! :bonk:

The higher exhaust note/tone I like is similar to the V-8 sound of a GT/Cobra Mustang, et al.

So from i'm hearing, the Y-pipe is really the performance maker here rather than the exhaust itself. I considered getting a catback from Apexi (WS) Greddy or HKS but i havent decided yet.

Yeah, i dont want the bees in a can sound from the exhaust. i hear that all night in my neighborhood and it gets annoying. I probably wont supercharge the max so N/A requirements should be all that im after. Will 2.5 be ok or should i drop down to stock 2.25 for my non-SC setup?

thanks again for the feedback!
