HID's illegal? news to me
Woah, guess my head's in the clouds. Didn't know about DOT making HID kits illegal. Can I still graft some kind of headlights onto my car that are OEM HID like Skylines? Just throwing that out there. So this law is federal? That sux0rz.
I wanted to get me some tight HIDS!! :( |
The reason they are illegal is that aftermarket kits are not self-aligning. All cars that come with OEM lights are self-aligning to the road.

if you get an aftermarket kit, you will blind everyone and their mothers on the road due to the scattered beam pattern (since 4th gens and below have yet to come out with projectors). Best thing to do is just re-adjust your headlights to point down further, to avoid blinding the world.
But good luck trying to find sellers for the aftermarket kit. Aug 15th has gone and past, and many do not want to risk the 5000 dollar fine. |
yeah. that pretty much sucks because hid's are dope as hell. want to put oem skyline projectors on my car now instead :\ gonna cost a lot more

i guess im the only one that knows redlinemax.com still sells kits

The DOT is trying to ban the sale of aftermarket HID's because most of them are pooly designed and cause a lot of glare to oncoming drivers. The Catz system is the best I know of and the Catz company has to suffer from all the garbage kits being out there. I got rid of the Hanabi system I had because it didn't have highbeams. The Catz system does and it has a focused beam pattern. The DOT is mainly going after resellers on this one. |

My opinion one of the best kits out there is the Phillips K2 8000K HID kit. I got it and love it. Heres a link where you can buy it, look's like they are still selling it. http://www.koolglo.com/html/k2_h_i_d__systems.html
