Just ran across this on one of the G20 sites. It's how Sentra owners are doing it for their 99's.

Nismo87SE already posted the details for our car but I thought this was pretty clear about the steps involved for theirs.

What caught my eye was the middle of the page talking about the 3-wire vs 4-wire harness for the 02 sensor. Might be that simple to avoid the 0707 CEL.

doesn't cheston have these diagrams?

why doesn't someone with a FSM look up the harness and compare it to the G20 harness so we can have a guide to attempt the wiring.

Again I'm going to stress NVIS. Maximas got it in '99 while the G20s got it in 2000 and Sentras didn't get it till 2000+. I'm pretty sure NVIS is an ECU controlled system with multiple parts, and we definitely know Nissan doesn't want you removing it :nono:

I've heard of a few guys with aftermarket alarms who left NVIS alone and just put the transponder inside the steering column and used a regular cut key. However, with an earlier ECU the NVIS is physically gone, so you'll have to remove the system from the rest of the car; transponder system in the steering column, fuel pump cutoff mechanism, etc.

2) You can already get an ECU, you'll just get a check engine light which is better than not being able to have an ECU at all :jeffy:

NVIS shouldnt be a concern, if it was all the bmw ecu upgrades, audis, and others would pose an issue for makers as well. NVIS wouldnt and shouldnt inhibit a company from taking my ecu and reprogramming it, since I'm a 99 I wouldnt mind if I had several days down time to get it. Reprograming fuel maps, and rev limiters wont effect NVIS.

Id like to get one when I finally trade my Auto for a 5spd in. Yeah more pushin to the Maxima, lol I geuss

Correct, if you use a '99 ECU and have it reprogrammed by someone like JWT (who doesn't do 97+). Most of the talk of this thread has been taking a '95/96 ECU and adapting the harness to work on a '99. This isn't just a reprogram since the early ECUs don't have NVIS to begin with.

The real problem overall is that the code for 97+ ECUs hasn't been cracked, so they can't be reprogrammed.

Yeah I hear that. I'm working on it right now. I'm going to get support for us. I mean sheez someone out there can crack this if we have to all pitch in some money and pay a person to crack it.

Yeah I think its coming down to what they think has the strongest support which is understandable, and what they are willing to sit down and do. I bet if we throw enough money at them up front they can figure it out. I'm not giving up on this even if I have to contact some three english word speaking japanese guy in japan to do my ecu. It will get done. lol.

if it worked for an auto and there were legit dynos to prove results i would purchase if there were no drastic side effects.

so it will work on a 98 ? I heard it will with a CEL light for the rear O2. my only concern is emmissions. If they see a CEl, they might not let you test it. And then what?

do 1998's have an ECU upgrade yet..or can we leach off of another year's ECU upgrade?

they havent MADE it yet... so you dont really need to worry about that yet :grinno:

I believe you can use a JWT ECU if you have a 98, you will just get the CEL. If you bought another ECU and had that programmed instead, you could always just put your stocker back in for inspection time.

Yes I am. However I'm doing it with my own funding because no one came to the plate when it came time to get some intial work done. Quite a shame actually........everyone wants one...they just dont want to give any money up to start the process. :gotme:

What do you need money for? Not that I don't trust you or anything :), but I'd be willing to help fund a project if I knew it was going to happen, and what was going on. Who are you looking at to develop this?

me too, I just dont want to throw $400-500 at someting I dont know will work. If a company is willing to do it I will gladly donate my ECU.

Um actually I had posted if everyone gave like 5 bucks each we could buy a spare 99 ecu to send to this guy. I got three or four responses. So i bought it myself. The guy does ecu upgrades for sr20det, silvia motors, and the skyline. I'll keep everyone updated.
