Strange knocking problem
gang!
When i fill the tank with grade 83 or 87 gas, my car knocks even in second. It is very annoying. However it doesn't knock when i use 93/97 but that is hard on my pocket. Does anyone know why is this. My friend has same year max and he always uses 83 grade gas. Any idea what is wrong with my nismo? thanks paracha3 |
Be good to you Max and your max will be good to you.
and what the H3ll 83 octane?!?! The max is suposed to run on 91+ I wouldn't even run that in a car that doesn't take premium. 91+... and I stress the +. alot of people on here won't run less the 95. Octane is the resistance to knock. If you run that low what do you think will happen? the label on the gas door is there for a reason. Wow... |
so it doesn't has to do anything with Knock detection sensor? I am getting the impression that you have to use 91+. gas and that is the only solution?!?!?!?!

The knock sensor can "hear" knock and adjust for it by retarding the timing up to a point (at the expense of gas mileage and/or performance). If you can hear knocking, then the knock is too bad for the engine to adjust for and you should run 91+ octane (like the manual suggests). Running 91 octane is a lot cheaper than replacing your engine prematurely. The higher cost of 91+ may be entirely offset by increased gas mileage.

Thanks man, you made a very good point. I will use 91+ gas from now on. Thanks for explaining..
