Cleaned TB & now car doesn't start
 

I cleaned the throttle body following directions from motorvate.ca and after I reconnected everything the car doesn't start :mad: !
The CEL came on and after checking the ECU for codes it gave me 0102 = Mass Air Flow Sensor. I thought reseting the ECU would solve the problem but it didn't. What can I do to fix this?
Please help!

Did you connect the wire harness behind the MAFS?

Yes, I think everything is plugged in properly.

Check again, the thick hose on the right or the MAF plug is not tight...

OK, I'll check again tomorrow since it's already dark outside (I don't have a garage).
One thing I forgot to mention is that I was able to start the car with everything removed (hoses and MAF sensor) and when I opened the TB butterfly the car immediately stalled. After that the car didn't want to start even though everything was connected. It actually started once and died right away.
Did anyone encounter a similar problem and how did you fix this?

I too would double check your connection to the MAF.

Just cleaning the Throttle body should not do anything to the car unless you screwd up your MAF or forgot to plug it in.

Make sure you hear a click to confirm that the connector is in it's place.

I had the exact same problem. but my car started after few tries with white smoke coming out from muffler. so, maybe more tries might get it start.

After I did this my car stopped stalling.

are the vacume lines in correctly>? take maf connnector out and shove the wires into the connector and put back in. maybe one of the wires came loose

Tried all of your suggestions this morning but none seem to work and it actually has gotten worse. Before when I would turn the key the starter seemed to work and it would crank but now it doesn't crank (just like when you have a dead battery).
One of my friends thinks that I have sprayed too much of TB cleaner and suggested to leave the butterfly open for few hours and let it dry. So that's what I'd doing now. Is this a bad idea, will I be risking that stuff (insects, dust, etc.) will get into the engine and cause some damage?

tb cleaner should have already evaporated, maybe ur battery is to weak to power hte spark plugs :gotme: try to jump it.

disconnect hte maf and try to start, then recconect and try to start.

I finally got it started :) after several tries.
My friend was right, I oversprayed the TB cleaner. When the car started up it was very rough, the whole vehicle was shaking and there was a cloud of white smoke coming out the tailpipe. After couple of minutes of idling it settled and white smoke was gone. All is well again. :thumbsup:

So, from this experience I would recommend all attempting TB cleaning for the first time to spray moderately and it's probably not necessary to use the whole bottle of the TB cleaner (I had about 1/5 left).

lol I used like half of it on the TB and the rest of it on the IACV. I used a rag to clean and wipe :D

It's called hydrolock or something. When I did mine I empied a 1/4 of the bottle into it at a time, cranked it a few times til the cleaner went through. It's normal...
