Spoiler being first mod, a mistake?

1. I really love 4th gen Maxima's with those factory style spoilers, but then again not everyone does (or at least there might be some that don't). Right now, my Maxima has nothing done to it at all. I don't have the money to get anything else really at the time, such as rims. My question is, do you think it would look stupid if I put a factory style spoiler on my car with hubcaps that come with GXE Maximas? Here is a picture of what I mean:

http://www.spoilerdepot.com/Catalog....odelTemp=&idB=

2. Do you think it would be difficult and easy to mess up if you put a spoiler on yourself? Installation instructions would be included, but I'm not sure if it would be hard to install it or if it would be easy to screw up. Anyone know anything about this?

no it won't look stupid, i got mine installed and all i had was the honeycomb rims from a gle. definately improves the look of the car!

i think quite a few people on here have put on their own spoilers. i imagine as long as you line it up right and have the proper tools, it's not too difficult. i got mine installed just because i didn't want to risk it and got a good deal at the time. hope that helps. g'luck and be careful modding, it's addicting!

he has a gxe...they don't come from the factory with spoilers, everyone you've seen with one has either got/put them on after they bought the car or the dealer has done it. he's looking to get one because his car doesn't have one...

Thank you for the replies. I don't know where I could get this done if I decide not to do it myself. Any suggestions?

Doing it yourself is a recipe for disaster.

Get it done by a professional.

And imho, it's a perfectly good waste of a first mod.

if you're going cosmetic wise, its not a great first mod, nor is it the worst.

i have a plain back on mine, and have been looking to get one as well...

damn gxe's...

The previous owner of my gxe got the trunk lid and spoiler from an SE from a junkyard which happened to be the same color.

bring it to a professional shop. They will handle the prep, priming and paint work along with mounting.

DONT GET A SPOILER!!!!!!!!!! my 95se has a stock one and the only rust on the car is on the inside two support brackets. it sucks, i tried to take it off but the bolts are fused together no way can i take it off and put it back on without a complete spoiler overhaul. also the 3rd brake light broke off on one of the three brackets i reinforced it with steel and epoxy and havent had problems for 1.5 years now but spolers are nothing but trouble and they dont enhance the car visually that much. i wish mine didnt have one.

my 2 cents

se rims

why not look for some SE 5 spoke rims in the classifieds section here ?
they go pretty cheap.. 300-400 dollars a set..maybe less ??

hey be brave on the wing: go out and get something bold !

enjoy !

The stock spoiler makes a HUGE improvement in appearance. I say go for it. But I would probably have a professional install it.

So I should buy the spoiler online with it painted to my color and then take it to a body shop for them to put it on?

i think many other people have different experiences and opinions...sometimes changes with the type of wing being installed, who installed it, and where did you buy it from. If you install it yourself, very possible to do something wrong...thats not to say a shop would do everything right. Some online shops include brackets, and good hardware for install...some just send you a wing. do a search to find out more about wings (hey its IN my sig) where people bought from, if they did their own installs

A spoiler is one of the most important modifications to do to your car to make it beautifull. Also a stupid looking big spoiler( such as the ones that are on some civics, well actually those are there to make em FLY) is one that easily lets u know that the driver is a rice boy! the factory spoiler is VERY clean and nice looking.
IMO you MUST go for it and spend the 140 dollar. it wont look stupid at all, it would look sweet and ull add rims later on. Stillen type 2 wing is very nice too. you might wanna consider that one too.
one of those 2, dont go for anything else!
