HELP keep my GF's @ss warm - seat heater!

Allright guys, my passenger seat is not heating up when i turn it on, how can I go about troubleshooting it and fixing it?

Drivers seat works just fine.

MaxedOutOfCash Oct 20, 2003 09:41 AM

maybe it's unhooked from the plug under the seat??? check your cabling underneath the seat.

ivelweyz Oct 20, 2003 09:41 AM

did it ever work???

-Serious...have you checked your fuses?

DoGGy Oct 20, 2003 11:23 AM

she doesnt like a bouncy ride. thats why he isnt lowered yet !

maxNYC Oct 20, 2003 11:25 AM

wear socks, gloves and mits...

seriously check to see if you have current going to the seat first.

flyer Oct 20, 2003 01:42 PM

Allright how do I check if there is current going to the seat and where is the fuse for the seat heater?

Both heaters worked last winter, only the driver one is working this winter.

As for the rest of you stay the hell away from my GF, I make sure her @ss is nice and warm when I'm not driving.

Oh yeah, another thing my airbag light was flashing, I tried resetting it according to the "how to" to no avail. The next day the dealer charged me $80 and told me the passenger side aribag modulator needs to be replaced ($450). He also claimed no other airbags are going to work while the problem is there. On the third day the light stops flahing.
Is there something to worry about or can I just let it be?

fast97maxse Oct 20, 2003 01:53 PM

best way to warm her a$$ is a good spanking.

yeah, ok sorry.
If it isn't a fuse maybe just a wire loose under the seat?

flyer Oct 20, 2003 02:44 PM

Ok so I looked at the fuse under the steering wheel, it looks good according to the haynes manual no breakage in the middle.

I looked under the seat and there are 3 places where wires were plugged in. One at the front and 2 in the middle all 3 were plugged in well. Though how do I figure out if the wiring has gone bad?

Same fuse for both seats, so your OK there.

Does the RED LED light up on the passenger seat switch? If so, you have 12V plus Ground at the switch. If not, I would guess that you have a bad switch or broken wire at the switch.

Does the LOW heat work for both the SEAT BOTTOM, and the SEAT BACK? Wiring diagram shows them wired in SERIES for low heat, and bypassing the thermostat. ( I know, low heat is hard to feel).

For high heat the current runs through the Thermostat and from there (separately) through the SEAT BOTTOM to ground, and also through the SEAT BACK to ground. So on high, if 1/2 the seat works it would appear to be an internal problem in the seat or a bad connector under the seat.

Bottom line, if NO heat at all, on any setting, and the LED lights up, I would suspect the switch needs replacing. Thats what just happened to my SE.

The LED lights go on, and I don't get any heat on high or low. How do you change the switch and where is it located?

Thanks btw.

Ninos_Maxima Oct 21, 2003 09:21 AM

The wires are located under the seat, Just stick your hand deep under the passanger seat while lieing down on the back seats, Thats he easiest way I found.

The switch that I am talking about is the same one with the red LED built right into it, in the console box.

To get to the switch you need to lift up the console box that its mounted in. Pry up the trim plate (held by clips) under the shifter to get to the front mounting screws; then remove the two screws at the rear of console.
Good luck, Bob
