NKG Iridium Platinum Researched
OK...It's about time for me get some new sparks so I did a little shopping and researching. I got some pretty helpful info that I'm going to pass along for those who want it.
NGK Iridium IX = Iridium center electrode w/ standard ground; Life expectancy of a traditional spark plug; NGK's marketing gimmick!!! NGK Iridium = Iridium center electrode w/ platinum ground; Life expectancy of 100,000 miles NGK Double Plats (OE) = Platinum center electrode w/ platinum ground; Life expectancy of 60,000 miles NGK only recommends the NGK Double Plats for our cars (unless you need a colder plug). NGK Iridium is better in terms of life expectancy but not worth the extra money. There are no true extra hp gains from the sparks. HP gains advertised is actually HP restored from power lost from old deteriorated sparks. This is true for all sparks!!! Of course, we all already know the traditional coppers (at a fraction of the cost) work just as well as any of the above but only last 30,000 miles, right? Good!!! The information was provided from the friendly NGK technicians themselves! Thanks!!! |
