What's wrong?
I just bought a 1998 Maxima SE 5spd. I live in Québec , Canada. I checked all the legal papers about the car and everything seemed to be ok. The car has 131000 KM on the odometer, all the papers show the same. And there are a couple of bills from the previous owners that show me there has been a regular millage increase...But when I came back from the dealer, I noticed that the millage was going up less fast then it should...damn...it reads in miles instead of kilometers. The speedo shows km/h in big and mp/h in small. But the digital is realy in miles.
I checked, and it's a canadian vehicule. Cannot be a smashed one from the US. So, could the ECU somehow got fuc**d up and from now it increases in miles? Please help me!!!! |
damn that a hard one.. bump for you. someone help him...

Do you think maybe the speedo gear might be different?

But this is not his problem... and i can't help him either.. :( Bump again... |
Mileage is registered in the meter only.
How did you know that it is registering slower than actual? Is it just a feeling, or you actually confirmed distances? Perhaps you are just paranoid :gotme: Try mapping out a short route (about 10km), then do the drive and see what mileage gets clocked on your odometer. If it's incorrect, do a conversion to see if it matches up in miles instead of km. If neither, you somehow have a faulty meter /speed sensor? Ummm, is your speedometer correct in its reading? |
I already did tests!! It's canadian car, so it should read in kms. I bought the car at Montreal and I live in Quebec City. I'ts 235km from one place the other. I reseted the trip meter to 0 at Montreal, read 140 when I got home. Means miles...I did another test. I went on the higway with my father. At exctly 100 km/h on both cars, so my speedo is correct, we mesured 10 km on MY car, and it was 16 on HIS. So it realy is in miles...
There is something I figured out while checking the last owner's bills. His alternator broke down when he was on a trip in Virginia last summer. He got the car fixed at a Nissan dealer in Virginia. So what I suspect is, that the dealer did a reset of the computer, so by the way, the speedo got the US settings and from then, recorded miles instead of kms. Is that possible? That's the only thing I could think of as an possible answer to that weird problem... It's impossible that the has been recording miles instead of kms and nobody figured it out in 6 years... I'll get to a dealer and get the computer reseted again to check if it'ill switch back to kms... What you guys think? |
its not really hurting ur car then. its basically doing less miles or km when u drive...correct?
|
Yeah...but what I want to find out is if it's realy what I think it is, and if it's not, how long has it been that way. I bougt a 130K kms car...I don't want a 215K kms(130miles) car...
