howcome 95's have this part on intake while others don't?!?...
 

the part located on the left side. it attaches on the stock ram-air scoop in the front of the engine bay but seems to not really do anything. was it supposed to be another part of the resonator or is it useless?

can i just cap this part off to help clean up my engine bay or not?

sorry if this topic has been discussed before, just didn't know what to search under. if i removed this, would it make my 95 gxe even lighter than it already is and more all other stock 4th gens :grinno: ?

You will save an amazing 3.87 ounces by removing it. That translates into nearly 10 seconds in the 1/4.

Why not just buy a CAI or HAI and clean up the engine bay even more?

if you look at the ram air thing from the front-side, the ram scoop will actually draw more air from the front while driving into your stock air box. it is good if you have hybrid/short ram/popcharger setup because it'll lead more cold air into your filter. if you have cold air intake then you must remove the whole stock intake system (like my sig). other than that it's ugly and useless...

Don't get rid of it. If anything, as the other guy said, it will help bring in more air for your pop-charger... and also cool the engine bay in general. More air never hurts, especially when it is being rammed in.

I really don't think the stock "ram" scoop will draw in more cool air if it's not hooked up to the stock air box. When it's hooked up in the stock form there is suction drawing air through the scoop. When there is a cone filter in place there is not air being sucked through it. Air is not going to be effectively pushed through the scoop, through all the tubing, and to the filter without the engine on the other side to suck it though. I would bet you would get better air flow through the engine bay with all that plastic tubing removed.

and no no no, i'm not talking about the ram air thing itself, i'm talking about that part on the left. it has no openings whatsoever aside from in the resonator. seems like just an extension to the resonator but really seems as though it has no purpose. i think nissan stopped using it in 96+ because it really seems like a design flaw. i was thinking there's got to be some reason for it, but i still don't get why. do i need to circle which piece i'm talking about, or do you guys understand now?

OK its another intake resonator, just like the one at the bottom of the ram air scoop. You can take it off, but then you have to plug the hole (duh). Since only 95 year Maximas have them (and various other things that you don't know) could it have been a design thing, or maybe and OBD-1 thing? Either way its not needed.

My 96 had it, and my friends 96 also had it. So it might be a 95-96 thing.

this is a super picture of my super old popcharger setup from 1 year ago. although some cold air is being sent through to the cone filter while driving, like mike said, i doubt the air is being sucked in effectively.
