HELP!!! Car won't stay warm!!!

So it's ball freezing cold this morning. Go out and let car warm up for probably 10 minutes. Temp gauge is maybe half way up when I get back in. Turn on heat full blast and drive to work. Temp gauge goes down all the way to the cold mark!! Starts blowing luke warm air. I've never seen a car do this, hopefully it's only a thermostat, anybody else have a similar incident or ideas??

Thank you.

have you changed youtr oil?

USRacer900 Nov 25, 2003 09:41 AM

Mmmm, just curious, how would changing the oil affect the temp? Maybe I'm missing something.....

USRacer900 Nov 25, 2003 09:42 AM

Also, if it's indeed the thermostat, would you guys recommend OEM over say autozone/Advance brands? Is the quality any different?

Thank you again.

well, my friend didn't change his oil in his car on the regular scheduled time, so his engine wasn't running normal. The A/C was not cold and the heat was not hot. The car would not warm up correctly also. HIs temp guage was either low on C or more than middle. Then a few months later, his engine died on him.

Your thermostat is stuck open. I was having the same problems as you. I replaced my stat with an autozone brand part this weekend and it's all toasty now.

Thanks! I'll give a new thermostat a try.

Def open thermostat. lucky for you it didn't stayed closed, then that would lead to overheating.

Next question: Where's the thermostat located at? Looks to me like it might be on the left side of the engine (standing in front of car) above the alternator??

Thanks again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep

So when the thermostat is stuck open, the car would cool down quickly? After I drive and turn off the car, the car gets cold quickly. The heater air is not that hot either :(
