'97 GXE Won't Start
I went out to start my '97 GXE this morning and it cranked and cranked but did not fire at all. This is an all of a sudden thing. The car has run flawlessly since it was new. I'm guessing a fuel pump but maybe somebody knows better.
Any help is appreciated. Jwyles |
Sux to be you. :nutkick: Just kidding. I wouldnt know. There are more knowledgable people here on that subject.

Most likely one of the following sensors bit the dust.
This is in order of importance: a) Crank Position (POS) b) Crank Position (REF) c) Cam Shaft Position |
Thanks
I saw Maxtout's post about the same problem after I posted. I am not smelling any gas though. The car has about 150k for mileage. The HTE codes are obviously a near sure way to pin point what's going on without playing the replace the part game. What's involved in accessing the codes? Jwyles |
Battery dead?

I was thinking that...maybe the battery.

Battery is fine. Like I said it cranks and cranks.

O.K.
Got the info on accessing the fault codes... so I'll give it a try in the morning. Looks like the diagnosis may be easier than I thought. Jwyles |
Codes showed 0101 and 0304...cam position sensor and knock sensor.
I repalced the cam position sensor ($54.00) and it started right up and ran great. The code for the knock sensor went away after the cam sensor was installed. The toughest thing was finding a parts dealer who had a sensor in stock. Thanks to everyone for the help! Jwyles |
