Can't get Hood to Stay Up

Had front end accident (sob sob) last October. Autoshop fixed it pretty well. Haven't opened the hood but once or twice since then. Noticed it back then but forgot about it (Holidays, new house, Baby #4, many distractions, etc.). When I lift the hood the "mini-shocks" on both sides feel just as good as always (when I'm lifting the hood up). The problem is the hood doesn't stay up at all.

Are the cylinders shot. Is there a pressure line leading to them. This is the first car I've ever had where the hood is held open with "mini-shocks". As you can tell I have no ideas about them. I'm selling the car for a bigger mini-van (I need it for all our kids). Can someone please help me??

98 GXE
5 Speed
80k miles
Extremely clean (if anyone is interested in CT)

You can buy new hood shocks or insall a manual hood support. I believe procarparts.com stocks the hoodshocks for our car.

or you can go to autozone or napa and get them for under $20. don't go to the dealership because it will cost a grip.

Black95Se,

Please tell me the brand and model of the manual hood support. I have been looking for one for my 4th gen Max.

Thanks,
Sam

The brand is strongarm. I can't help you with the model number, although I think they have a website. Try a google search.

My mom has the same problem with her car. the Hood shocks gave out. We got some at Vans for a decent price. I think $15 a piece.

Havent posted in a LOOOOONG time. Board looks good. Ok bye bye now.. :grinno:  :)

Just got mine at Advanced Auto Parts - the strong arms. You can ask the clerk, and she can look up the number...98 is what it says in their book, but it's the same thing.
And they have a lifetime warranty too...good stuff. My only problem is that they need metric wrenches to take off...an extra 9.99 from target...oh well.

In the mean time, each time you need to work under the hood, clamp a vise grip under one of the hood struts so the hood won't fall onto your head =)
