my Auto tranny won't start unless I shift 1/2 way to R....
 

My '99 Auto tranny won't start unless I shift 1/2 towards Reverse and then i have to push it back up all the way to Park. This has been happening for about 5 months now.
Anyone else have or had this problem?

i honestly can say ive never heard of such a thing.

this happens less than half of the time..

I've had sort of the same problem, where I didn't put it all the way to P the night before. So I have to push it up more to P before car would start. Maybe there is something blocking the shifter under the dash trim, or you spilled someting gooey like coke down there, i'd say pull that piece off and take a look down there and check it out. You just pull up on the trim piece behind the shifter and it comes out.

i had the same problem on my 3rd get but i never got it fixed i just sold it, u might need to adjust it.

I had the same problem with my old 3rd gen max.

I could not start the car so one day the auto club came and shifted the car through all the gears and then the car started.

Mentioned that when I park the car, I put it into park before the car really stopped thus messing the shifter or tranny.....but the car did start.

Weird.
