Geico and Progressive don't seem to like young drivers very much. When I was 18, I quoted both of them and got insane rates. Thankfully, my car is insured by my dad so it's a little cheaper. When I turn 21 in a couple months, I plan to buy it from him. I heard a company called Farm Bureau is pretty cheap. But I'd stay away from Geico and Progressive, and also State Farm. They are really bad insurance co's for young drivers.

That is like a trick question because in New Jersey, all cars cost a huge amount more than in other states. So in general it is probably ok in comparison to other cars. But still, New Jersey, and likely a young driver= $$$. Get a cheap 95 Maxima and go without comprehensive insurance to get more affordable rates.

Farm Bureau is damn cheap. My friend has it and she is paying $60 a month I think. I have State Farm and I'm paying $110/month without good grades or drivers ed.

I pay $122 Canadian a month up here in T.O for a 98 max SE

Check your deductables and coverage. Some buddies always say I am paying too much but then they do not have Collision Insurance on their cars.
Must compare apples to apples.

My other friend has a 96 Integra and she is paying almost $2000 CDN a year. Reason is that it is a highly stolen vehicle here in Toronto but if she were to insure a brand new G35 X it would cost her $2300 thru State Fram.

Weird.

I have state farm, 28yo and Married. We have our house on the same insurance.

I also have a supercharged 01 cobra that they know is supercharged and its 70bucks a month. But its not a daily driver.

When I was 16 my insurance was 130 buck a month for a 89 z24.

I've got Progressive and I'm currently paying $1,200 every 6 months for full coverage. I'll be dropping collision next month when the policy renews, because it's not worth it to me on a 6-year old car. Any damage I can't pay myself would mean they'd just total it anyways...

But whoever said progressive doesn't like young people is pretty much right.

I pay about $780 a year through State Farm. I have had the same policy over 20 years, accident free for over 17 years, have two cars, home insurance, mortgage insurance, life insurance. Though, I got my first two tickets since 1977 this year.

Basically, no insurance is kind to anyone under 27. Try to rent a car. They don't take into account that you may be a safe driver, but that you fall into a high risk bracket. But they do take into account all the negative. Ask for specifics about your payment rate.

I'm 19 and on my own. With progressive I am at under $100 a month. I had two claims before and a speeding ticket, but I guess my good credit helped.

Everyone that is under 21 should state if they're with their parents or not because that makes a big difference.

My advice is get a insurance agent. Mine found me a great rate I think.

A couple of things:
1. the magical age is 25 for guys...(supposedly it cuts almost in half when you reach this age.)
2. Marriage helps tons!
3. YOu cannot compare to a girl, because for some reason, they are a lot cheaper to insure(I have my theories...ha ha)
4. Higher deductibles will help
5. multiple cars helps...like with your parents.

*I would not advise buying from your parents when you turn 21 unless you have to. It will not be considerably cheaper then either.

*I am paying about $109/month. I am 24/male. I cannot wait for about another 10 months, and I get the age 25 discount. I think I have like one ticket on there. *

*There is not a set best company for any one age group. I have shopped to death, and everything with auto ins. differs from person to person. I have safeco, because they happened to beat Progressive. I moved to Progressive before that because they happened to beat State Farm. I was with USAA before that. I mean, you just have to constantly see who is cheaper for you and go with them. They don't give us much incentive to be loyal to them when they jack up the prices on us, do they?*

***My theory....if a girl and a guy drive somewhere...who usually drives? The guy does. Therefore, if the guy is usually the one that drives, it is just a matter of time(since his driving time is greater than the girl's) until he will have a wreck. This, in turn, causes guys to have a lot more wrecks than girls. (I am not saying that girls don't cause the wrecks, just that they don't get blamed for them. We do.****

Farm Bureau is the best. I'm 21 and pay 300 every six months for full coverage, and that's with a ticket and 2 accidents. Even when i was 16 I didn't pay more than 350 every six months. I'd check them out.

You guys are lucky!!!

Im in the insurance graveyard of the US along with NY and NJ here in Miami, FL. I pay $1077 every six months and I dont have collision or comprehensive. I do have $100,000/$300,000/$100,000 liability though so that makes it a little higher. Im 17 under my parents insurance, with 4 cars, good student discount, and a clean record.
