Dam it! I Didn't Pass Smog

I just wanted to give you all a word of advice. Keep your stock y-pipe and save some cash. I failed my smog test even though some orgers have said that it will pass smog after you install a performance Y-pipe. It really sucks having to pay for a smog check and not passing it, and now I have to pay again to get it re-done. I wish I could have spent that money on mods. Any ways sorry for bothering with my problems just wanted to vent out some of my anger. By the way I'm in CA. and in the last couple of years smog regulations have become insanely strict.

hey damn Cali, did you drive your car for at least 30 minutes before you went to pass the test? If you did then I feel sorry for the turbo guys.

Was your car completly warmed up? I dont have a y-pipe yet but everyone says they pass with the car warmed up.

all you have to do is let the cats heat up for at least 45 min before you go ,all you dont have pre cats so you have to let your cats get hot, just leave the car running while you are in line too get inspected it will be ok.
i have had mine for 2 years no problems

Yea I drove it around town before I took it in, and the mechanic left it running for at least 10 minutes before he did the test and it still failed :(

Torgus Feb 19, 2004 08:30 PM

well i'v passed. also in massachusetts at least when they fail you you have 30 days to fix it and go back to the shop and get a free recheck...let it warm up nice! also there are other ways to pass smog...different gas....or bribe the guy right down the street from me, if i needed to, i know he would pass my car for a few bucks...also the y was my 2nd best performance mod yet by far.

Jepht20 Feb 19, 2004 08:46 PM

complaining you could have spent the money on mods? how much is it over there?!? here in mass i think it's $28 or something like that...can't buy too many mods with that. but as the others said, i thought you'd be able to get it retested for free.

try running some chevron through your gas tank and various other crap to clean up your fuel & exhaust systems. when's the last time you got a tune up and what specifically did you fail?

u guys are demm lucky, in cali its about 60-70 for the first time.

What i do on my cars is i take them to special places, put out $200 and it passes no questions asked.

hmmm - I wonder what made your car fail - do you have a print out?
is it Hydro carbons ( raw fuel ) or Nitrates of Oxide ?
what is the condition of your catalitic converter?

even with the y-pipe healthy running VQ motor should have no problems passing
smog test as long as all your emmision components are functioning properly.

Nick.
