Using a 95-98 ECU in a 99

Okay, so we all know there's no ECU upgrade for the 99s, because 99s use the same style harness on the ECU as the 2k and 2k1 ECUs. So someone suggested making an "adaptor" that would be used in the middle so that you could hook up a 95-98 ECU to a 99.

Well my MEVI is quite lonely without an ECU and I'm not real hopeful about any other options, so I'm going to try and tackle this project.

Question 1
Am I dreaming here? Can this really be done? It sounds like I need to figure out what all the pins do on the 95-98 ECU, figure out what all the pins do on a 99 ECU, then make an adaptor and splice together the associated pins. In the end I don't care if I have a CEL and a bunch of codes, I just want my lowend/midrange torque back and an extra few hundred RPM.

Question 2
Is this the connector for a 95-98 ECU?

And this the connector for the 99-2k1 ECU?

Question 3
Does anyone have an electronic version of the 99-2k1 FSM?

DAVE Sz 02-27-2004 02:42 PM

Why not just wait for TS to make theirs?

IceY2K1 02-27-2004 02:52 PM

That second one is a 2K, which could be the same as a 2K1.

'99 will have it's own version(S).

NissanSE98 02-27-2004 04:20 PM

is there anything for a '98 in the works?

DAVE Sz 02-27-2004 05:59 PM

TS is making 98+ ECUs. 97 are out of luck for a previously stated(somewhere) reason.

Kevlo911 02-27-2004 06:23 PM

Ya 97's are out of luck, because hte company that made the 97's are out of buisness. They sare making 99+, from what I ahve read.

Isn't that company Technosquare? They are out of business?

Key word MADE, as in the company that made(past tense) the ecu's for nissan, TS said it would be harder to get extra ecu's and it is not worth doing. Nissan only used that company for one year.

Sucks for me and oter 97's, but if I ever get the ecu, the CEL will not bother me.

You can use a 95-96 ECU in a 97-98 max.

JeffesonM 03-01-2004 03:58 PM

Bump... anyone have a 99 FSM???

CEL is the only thing, but that would not bother me at all, but it does matter to some people.

Please god someone must have a 99 FSM???

ejj 03-09-2004 10:52 AM

The biggest hurdle I'd see in doing this is the NVIS. ECU's before 99 have nothing in them for it. On solution that I've heard (from Jime's son actcually) was to replace the key cylinder with a non-NVIS one, get a new non-NVIS key cut, and use a pre-99, non-NVIS ECU.

May work.

Someone posted a link for the 99 FSM a month ago and I downloaded it. Who knows if it's still up on the web. I have the whole thing on my HD if you still want it, JeffesonM, although someone mentioned that this version (off a CD) may not be the full FSM that dealers have. It seems pretty comprehensive to me, but what do I know. PM me and I could send it to you over AIM. BTW, it just says Maxima A32 but it says ©1998 so I assume it covers the 1999 model year)

Even in a 98? What about the odometer? I thought that was recorded by the ECU...
