95/96'ers who redded out their tails: What tape product did you use?

This is a question for people who redded out their tails using a translucent tape, as opposed to painting them.

I was all psyched to do this, and I bought some Oracal 8500 translucent tape in color 030 Dark Red. (031 Red is also as opaque, but even brighter)

Here are the results:

(I didn't even bother to clean it up, or finish it)
Needless to say, this is not the right product. It's way, way too opaque!

Ok, so what should I have bought? Oracal 8300?? Something else?
I'm confused, cause the vqpower how-to says to use Oracal 8500, and that turned out great!

Help! :help:

EDIT: Please don't say "Paint them" or "wash your car"....just looking for an answer...thanks

WOW! That is hilarious.

If you wanna make the car look better try washing it first!

Oh and and bearded, thanks for the predictable response....I forgot I have to wash my car before uploading any pics to avoid it :)

I think it would be the 8300 transparent one...... damn i don't remember.

Before ordering anything else, clal them and ask for a sample of each one of em!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The color code is 031, that I am sure of.

And you only need to cover the amber parts. good luck man

this is why tape > paint

Dammit nadir! That looks so damn good...and I thought mine would be done by today, so you are making me feel worse :) lol

OK, time to get some 8300...thanks nadir.

nadir_s Apr 7, 2004 09:21 PM

at least you got practice with this one lol. And it looks like you didn't even try!

when you take that off, use goo-gone to get any adhesive off... and I also recommend gettin your hands on a heatgun because the blowdryer will take forever. I know!

That tape doesn't even look very translucent.
