What's your idle RPM?

This is when you first start the car and it's still in Park.

Just trying to see if there's something weird going on with mine.

6,000 rpm at idle.

Immediately after start up mine goes to about 1500 rpm. If it's winter and really cold it will stay there for a short time. Then it drops down to around 1200 rpm for warm up. It continues to drop until the warm idle of 600 or so sets in.

What's yours doing?

uhm, are you sure you didn't drop an extra 0 at the end of that number?

Maximus_95 May 13, 2004 02:56 PM

well mine idle's at 800-900 i would guess. pretty high. i dont know why. but its not that bad.

ManualMaxima May 13, 2004 04:36 PM

mine idles at 500 or 550.

Magikone69 May 13, 2004 05:15 PM

700-800, which i think is perfect for me. used to be like 500-600 but car would shake a lil and it was annoying.

gto400no1 May 13, 2004 05:20 PM

6000 cant be right man, did u hit 1 too many zeros? otherwise ur car is deff not acting normal. on a cold start mine is around 1200-1500 then drops to 600 when warm.

AxisKill May 13, 2004 05:48 PM

well i don't want to be the third person to ask if "you happened to hit an extra 0 on that figure" .... oh wait.... ooops. :grinno:

Muravchik May 13, 2004 06:17 PM

I think anywhere between 600 and 800 is where you're supposed to be. Mine idles at around 700 in park, but goes down to 500 when I'm in drive standig still...is that normal?

Vlasic May 13, 2004 06:55 PM

in the morning when its cold, it idles at about 1500, then goes down to 650, when its normal, it will shoot up to about 1000 when i start it, then imediatly drop to 650

JPMax May 13, 2004 07:01 PM

About 1200rpm at start and 750rpm when warmed up in Park.

Brudaddy May 14, 2004 07:56 AM

600 rpm at idle

Jonny98max May 14, 2004 08:55 AM

idles @ 650

XeroX May 14, 2004 09:20 AM

Mine would run up to about 1200-1500 early in the morning or when it was cold...and when it is warmed up it would idles at 700 in park and about 600-700 in drive...now ever since i reset the ECU (about 300 miles ago) the idle is different, its 700 in park and 400-500 in drive, it vibrates the car, and it really annoys me alot! and early in the morny when its warming up it doesnt go past 1000 anymore in park... but it does jump between 700-900... by jumping i mean it revs up on its own...randomly...

i know the idle is supposed to act funny after u reset the ECU but is this normal? after 300 miles?

sorry for stealing the thread but its within the topic :grinno:

Starts at 1200 then drops to 600 when warm.

Maxima99SE May 14, 2004 04:28 PM

mine idles anywhere from 550-650 now when in D or R... and about 700 when in P or N

XeroX May 14, 2004 05:09 PM

does anyone know how to stop that vibration? is there a way to raise the idle?

topdog1207 May 14, 2004 05:10 PM

mine starts off at like 1500 and then drops to 700 after it warms up

mdwst51 May 14, 2004 08:44 PM

Sorry, one too many zeroes. 600 is correct.

I've recently been worried because in the winter it used to be up around 1300 and I never saw it drop. A few days ago it was really hot and it went to 1300 then immediately within a few seconds dropped to 600. I could feel the engine's sound dying down and everything got quieter. I was afriad the needle was gonna keep going!

For the person with the surging idle, that could be a vacuum leak somewhere. Check your vacuum lines under the hood for cracks. Also check that you aren't getting unmetered air from around the throttle body area (unmetered air is "extra" air that enters the engine after the MAF. The computer doesn't know about this air, and tries to adjust for something it doesn't "know" about).

My '97 auto, when warm, idles just over 600 in drive. In park, it is just over 700. In drive at just over 600, there is a slight vibration in the steering wheel, but not enough to be felt anywhere else.

Dave
