gr-2's are getting harsher and harsher on me i think...
 

i think my gr2's are wearing out on my eibachs, not sure though cause it is getting rougher so incredibly slowly that I think it may just be my imagination....my car still handles amazingly well....just as well as it did 6 months ago....so I don't know...but I swear when my car goes over any kind of bump, dip, or road imperfection, my whole chassis feels the pain and it feels like that wheel or axle is slaming down after the bump I just went over, more so in the rear than the front...the rear feels like it just went over a crater when it was just in fact a bump or dip.....struts are not leaking at all.....does this sound like they are worn out or could it be something else...ie. bump stops, bearings, wheel bearings, strut mounts, something not torqued right, etc.???

GR2s are known to wear out quickly on Eibachs, the only two that are known to not wear out are Illuminas and Konis. Try the corner bounce test to confirm the shocks are wearing out.

GR2's are a very firm strut. Combine that with a tight spring and you have a harsh ride. As your tires wear down they take bumps harder as well so over time everything gets harder and harder. Take a close look at what your riding on, I bet the GR2's are in great shape still.

If you want a softer ride, throw a set of Illuminas up front.

Yeah, my GR2/Progress is pretty stiff, seems like it's worse now than when I put it on last September, but may be that my a** is just getting sore.

well I can confirm that they are definitely not leaking according to me and my mechanic....I can barely if at all push down any corner of my car especially the fronts!! it does not bounce, it just goes right back to its original position after I push down as hard as I can....

I only bring this up because my buddy's Z feels just like mine...extremely harsh over bumps and such, and his struts are not visibly leaking but a mechanic told him they are blown and you can't see it....I haven't ridden in other maxima's with this setup so I don't know if my extremely harsh ride is normal or not....

DAMN! Keep me posted aswell. My Eibach/gr2's ride like crap also and I just replaced the stocks with gr2's. :(

I replaced from my original suspention to GR-2's last summer. Still have the original springs but i find GR-2's to be soft at times now and not as stiff at they were...ofcourse i am NY driver and the pot holes here are horrible so they might be wearing out a lot faster...

They are still not leaking or anything but i wouldnt might it if they were a little stiffer...I guess it all depends on where you drive and how much you drive. I think mine are wearing out much faster then i expected.

Nope, you did the bounce test wrong. Pop open you trunk, grab the trunk lip in front of you, and press down hard, again, again, again, again, again, again, again, and the last time, let go and see if it bounces once, or more than once. More than once and your shocks are probably blown or getting weak.

You only pushed it down once, you have to get it into a rhythm.

I've had the eibach/gr2 combo 10 months now and have put roughly 9k miles on this combo and have not noticed any change in handling. The springs do seem to "burp" over small bumps but I'm guessing this is due to the top coils rubbing against each other. Anybody?

this thread made me think about how mine has been getting a little stiffer feeling. well i just tried what you said, and i think my stock stuts are about shot (not bad after almost 10 years :grinno: )

that's how I did the bounce test though....i did it over and over and over...no bounce

Then, it is my understanding that you should be okay.

well, a human can only apply so much force which is much much less than the weight of even one corner of our cars which may compress the eibach spring to a limit where the spring rate is much higher, therefore asking a lot more of the strut which is why I think the bounce test does not work as well for progressive rate springs cause even worn out or weakened struts can dampen the spring rate for the first inch or two of progressive springs...my ride just seems a little bouncy in a straight line like when going over a bump or dip, but feels a lot more controlled on smooth surfaces and while cornering...

Any updates?
