Water dripping in passenger's footwell with AC on ???

Hey guys, there's water dripping on my wife's feet in the passenger's footwell when the AC is on ? Anyone has any idea where this could be coming from ? Is this a known issue, anyone ??

Thanks

I think it's just condensation from the surrounding air. If you look under their there's probably water on something like what happens with a cold soda can. This has happened in my dad's truck before, but we don't use AC alot around here so I don't know if it means something's wrong or if it's normal.

This is not normal and you should try to take care of it as soon as possible.
There is a drain that usually carries out all the condensation from the AC to the outside of the car. It is probably stopped up somehow, and now all that is running into your car.
If you don't take care of this, it will start to make your car stink because the carpet will always be wet.
I had a 88 maxima that did this.
I let it go too long and boy, was I sorry!
Also, if you let this continue, you will rust out your fan that propels the air into the cabin. The water will cause it to fail.

That is exactly correct. Your drain hose is clogged with dirt and dust. This happened with my eclipse. Find the hose and stick a hanger in it to unclogg it.

Not normal. The problem is definitely a clogged condensation tube. Open up the hood and look towards the passenger side of the firewall - mid way up from the bottom of the car.. you will see a rubber rubber coming out of the firewall - the other end will be just hanging open. This tube allows condensation to drip out. Get a coat hanger, and try to clean out that tube... on my wife's car (not a maxima) I was able to remove the tube and clean it out properly and also able to clean out the metal tube it connects to inside the car... you can also used compressed air... after cleaning it out, run the air for 10 minutes or so - depending on how humid the air is around you, drips of water should start coming out of the tube... if the problem persists, try cleaning the tube out again... you might have a severe clog (based on the TSB mentioned earlier in this thread).

yeah this happened to a friend, it was condensation, the tube or soemthingwas clogged with dust and stuff

I wonder if under abnormal clogging, Drano could be used?

Or maybe you should call Roto Rooter? ha ha

Thanks very much guys, I will be looking at this on the weekend. I'm very busy during the week... I really appreciate it ! Even though I did lots of mechanical work I would have never thought of the drain plug... Doh ! This is a really great ressource !!

Thanks !

This happened to my parents old Skyline, a few months after it started, the AC gave out. Probably a coincidence though :)

sounds like a heater core or condensor problem...could be the hose too, but from my experiene it's usually on of the two i mentioned.

My car has a related problem... the black "drain pan" that catches all of this condensation is cracked and missing some pieces (the jerk that sold me the car didn't repair a previous accident as well as he implied).

Has anyone removed this part of the ventilation system before? Is there a lot of dash disassembly required, or can this piece come free relatively easily?

Does anyone have an unbroken/cracked one from a parts car they'd like to sell?

Had a GEN I that had a similar problem. Turned out to be condensate drain tube (goes through firewall) was plugged and condensate was filling catch pan and overflowing into passenger sde footwell. I removed and cleaned it and cured problem.
