Trunk won't open

My trunk (97 GXE) won't open using the remote or the trunk release push-button. It does make a sound but looks like the lever/lock does not releases the trunk lid. It will only open with the key. I tried spraying some WD40 on the lever in the trunk (not on the lock assembly on the trunk lid) and it worked for a day but is stuck again.
Also, sometimes the radio antenna does not folds in completly, some portion of it sticking out. ... Any suggestions. Thanks.

theres a switch in the trunck by the latch that will allow you to open it with the button and the key fob

if you pop the trunk and look where there locking mechanizm is that locks the trunk lid to the car... there is a cut out in the carpet, in there, there is an opening where you can see a lil switch kinda thingy...

flip it up or down.. i dont member what way, but that is the lock so that when you park your car Vallet, you can lock your trunk so that no one unless they have the key can access the trunk.. kinda like a child lock...

sorry, I should have mentioned this earlier..., I have already checked that switch and that is in ON position.

don't use WD40...it just evaporates.
put some grease in there!

maxib2, mine doesn't have "on" or "off" on it, but the lever in the trunk should be pulled UP to allow the remotes to work!!

You should pull it uip and down several times - it has a detent - make sure it is all the way up or down, else it will not work. If it does not work at all after trying this you may have to use a small socket wrench and gently re-align the closing mechanism then tighten it well AFTER yu fixed the problem
