Mildew-ey smell, but nothing's wet. Sunroof? Trunk?
Whenever my 98 gets stormed on, there's usually a mildew-ey inside my car. It's a bit stronger inside my trunk, but I can NEVER find anything wet. Anyone have this and find a mystery leak or anything? Is the bottom of the trunk susceptible to leaks (under the carpet, floorboard, and spare)?
Also - I don't think my sunroof leaks, but when I close my driver's door with a bit of force I can see the glass jiggle. I bought it with 112k, so it's not like I can remember what it was like when it was new. The sunroof shade has no water stains on it, with it does have two discolored lines (my interior is tan and the lines are a darker brown). One is right at the front edge of the shade's handle, and lines up with where the shade meets the headliner when it's closed. The other is behind the handle, and lines up with the same meeting place (only when the shade is fully open). Anyone know an easy way to clean these? ...Because mine are acting a bit stubborn and won't go away. '98 SE Rosewood 5-Speed Tan Cloth |

the 4th gen FAQ. Look for the post with the subject "My AC smells like crap". Easy and cheap to at least try it. |
Check in the quarter panels (like where the jack is), I found those full of water at one point because the drain was plugged up and the water from the sunroof (I think) was being drained into it. I didn't have any smell coming from it but It's worth a try.

check down by your spare tire...your trunk may have a small leak and letting water sit down by your spare...I messed with a leak for months last year in the trunk then finally fixed it

It can be your A/C - sometimes it smells like mildew other times like someone smoked in the car for years!
