Anyone else's Warpspeed Y-pipe sprung a leak?
 

Picked up a Warpspeed Y pipe a few months ago from the GD. Slowly but surely I've been developing a leak. At idle sounds like total @ss. I tried tightening the bolts from the y to cat, but it seems to be coming from the flex section. I'm kinda mad b/c now I need to take it off and put on the stock Y pipe for a month or so for the ship to warpspeed and turnaround.

Sorry for the rant, just needed to vent. Curious if anyone else's has done this?

I've used the stock hanger.... so is this warpspeeds fault or mine?

I haven't had any noises really. A few if there is bad wheel hop (which is quite rare). And besides, who doesn't have noises when there is wheel hop?

i had same issue but thats after owning it for 3 years....these things have like a 4 year warranty. Just call them up and see what they can do.

Dude, I bought my warpspeed pipe on a GD a while back and I too am noticing a horrible sound at idle, WOT, and during hard shifts. Do you think it's necessary to send back to Warpspeed to fix or do you think there's a way to limit the amount of movement in the flex section? Possibly adding another hanger? I would hate to have to remove it and ship it to them cuz My OEM y-pipe was all crapped out, so basically my car would be undriveable for how ever long the turnaround would take. :(

ok cool, i'd like to know what they say.

Try replacing the gasket between the cat and the y-pipe. My warpspeed had a similar problem until I replaced that gasket. $4 part....worth a shot.

well i have a leak also i can hear it from the y pipe, i keep thinking that my y pipe came loose from the cat but then again i haven't go under there to check.

If interested in Warpspeed wanting to charge me $50 to replace the flex section, start reading from the bottom. Thanks :)

We actually only warrant what we manufacture and we don't make the flex sections. However, if there is a legitimate problem we address it with the company that does manufacture them and the few that have failed we inspect and deal with. Since we have only replaced 5-6 in the last 6 years out of 3,000-4,000 they have a pretty good history.

Thank you for returning my email promptly. This pipe has a 4 year warranty if I am not mistaken. The pipe was purchased new through a group deal on Maxima.org directly from your company, and has never been wrapped. This sounds to me like some type of defect which therefore should be replaced by the manufacturer, free of charge, under warranty.

While receiving another pipe under warranty is great and all, I still do not want to have to go through this every 4 months. I will personally replace the gasket today and see if that solves any problems. I will also be sure to torque the cat/flex bolts to the proper torque specification. Hopefully this will solve the problem. I will be keeping in touch.

The first thing I would do is make certain it is not a leaking gasket, sometimes the professional installers at the muffler shops overtighten the flanges and it causes the gasket to burn out. The few flex section failures we have seen are typically because they were wrapped or overheated. Send it to us along with a copy of your receipt and we'll inspect the pipe and try to determine what exactly the problem might be.



The timely manner of our professional inspection and correction will be determined only by how fast you send it to us. If it was overheated or wrapped we charge $50 to replace the flex section. You are responsible for shipping both ways regardless. As far as our manufacturing techniques, we actually have processes not techniques.

I’ve had my y pipe in my 1997 maxima for a few months now. Slowly but surely it has been developing an exhaust leak from the flex section. It is getting bad now. I need to know why this is happening. The pipe was installed correctly by a professional shop. I need to know if this a common problem, and if you have fixed your manufacturing techniques? well i checked out my y pipe and it came loose from the header so it sounds loud, but other than that my y pipe i no where near the cross memeber. good luck on getting that fixed.
