Squeeling Brakes (Please Help! I'm not sure what else I can do)
 

I just replaced my rotors all around with cross drilled/slotted Brembo rotors and new pads to get rid of a squeel. I used plenty of caliper grease on all of the bolts that mount the caliper and the pads, but the squeel has returned less than a week after replacing everything. Last year I had the front brake pads replaced and the rear calipers, but the sqeel has returned each time. The sqeel occurs even when I'm not going on the brakes. My Maxima currently has 75,000 miles on it, and I've never replaced the brake lines.....Could old brake lines cause this problem, or does anyone have a suggestion?????????

I know for a fact that its not your brake lines causing the problem...where is the squeak coming from? which wheel?..that is the first place to start trouble shooting..well you didn't say what kind of pads you put on your max...details...and we might be able to help better

what kind of brake pads are you using? i used raybesto quiet pads for a bit and they sqeeled like a damn monkey.

then i went back to OEM brake pads and viola! no noise every again

My brake squeel also. I was told by a brake specialist at a Tire service center that there is nothing I can do, Nissan's brakes just squeek.

Thats just simply not true. I put new ceramic pads on my 96 max about 2k miles ago and used the red spray to reduce squeaks and I have ZERO noise from my brakes, no matter how much humidity is out.

I also put new front rotors on at the same time and lubed everything up really well.

I hate my brakes! They squeel like a moffo! It used to go away if I presed harder on the brakes, but that doesn't work anymore, lol. But I'm gonna go outside and work on them right now, cus I didn't use brake quiet grease on the back of the pads, and the rotors are pretty damn smooth. So I'm gonna put that grease in the back of the pads and take a sander to the rotors (ghetto resurfacing, lol). After putting everything back together, I'll drive the car as if braking in a new set of pads. I got VGX pads in the front and cheppo' Advance Auto Parts pads in the back... it just so happens it's the back ones that squeel the most, I wonder why? lol. I'll let you guys know how it went in a couple hours.

Just had my rear rotors and brakes replaced. Got Brembo's w/o slots or drilled and Japanese brake pads called Sumimotos. So far, so good. My brakes would squeak like a mouse caught in a trap. The front brakes were replaced about 2 years ago (calipers, wheel cylinders, brake master cylinder, pads, and rotors). Very expensive but worth it in the long run. There are great brand name brakes on the market it all depends upon what you want to spend. The Bendix pads (what I have on the front) are costly (around $70-90) and the sumi's cost me $45. I have a pair of KEM ceramics at home that I'm doing nothing with if any needs front brake pads. Got Albany's for the rear but my mechanic said I should go with the sumi's considereing how I drive.

Yes, but then again, Kansas doesnt have near the humidity that Tennessee does.

Mine squeal and grind... stupid carbon metallic brakes

Did any of you re-install your chatter springs? I didn't put mine back on this time and now my breaks squeel only when they are not engaged. Front only, rear I left alone.

I installed all the stock springs and hardware... still does the noises

I was using semi-metallic brakes made for Car Quest by Raybestos, but I went and complained today and they allowed me to switch the semi-metallic pads for ceramic ones. After installing the ceramic pads and using plenty of caliper grease, they still squealed, but now it’s mostly at lower speeds, and on the passenger side. If I'm going between 0 and 30 they will squeal, after that they stop until I slow down to that range again. I drove it around for about 40 miles after installing these pads hoping the squeal would disappear, but it didn't.

I've tried something like that comes in a white can, but it didn't do the trick. I saw the red can that your talking about at Pep Boys, I guess I'll try that, maybe its formulated differently.

Try Raybestos PG Plus Noise solution. They are the best over pads in my opinion. I have use the Raybestos QS, Bendix, Murrays auto supply, Trak. The PG Plus NS have eliminated all the problems I have ever had with noise, squealing, grindiing you name it. Front and rear noises GONE. Your looking at about $90.00 from Pep Boys and there are much better deals on the internet such as Rock Auto.

Ok, I finally got around to doing my guetto resurfacing. I took apart the brakes and I cleaned everything w/ brake parts cleaner and a clean towel. I hit the rotors with medium gritt sand paper on the power sander and I sprayed the anti-squeel thing on the back of the pads. Results, brakes gripped a little harder, not a big thing just barely enough to be noticed. Squeel was gone for 2 days, then it came back last night (!@#$%^&*), lol. Oh well, it was an attempt, I didn't use any money other than to buy the anti-squeal spray and 2 cans of brake & parts cleaner. At least I got to check on the condition of all my brake parts and cleaned everything up. Always gotta see the bright side of things.

After installing new ceramic pads from Car Quest my brakes still squealed, but someone told me to take some 80 grit sandpaper and sand a slight 45 degree bevel on the sides of the pads that touch the rotor. After doing this, they slightly squealed for about 10 miles and haven’t squealed since; despite putting over 200 miles on since then. This may be a solution to consider. It worked for me!

u know Mike...I totally forgot about that....happens all the time with some pads...glad you got it worked out!

Did you clean the areas that the pad rides on? The pad slided back/forth on two "ears". If these surfaces are dirty, that is what causes the squeak. Goop on the back of the pads sometimes help. Try taking the pads off again and clean the channels that the pads ride in. Or even take the slim brackets off and clean them. Reinstall and carefully put a dab of high temp grease on each channel the pad "ears" ride in. Should help

Aside from the squealing, how're you liking the new rotors? Did you get the cross-drilled or the slotted rotors? I'm looking at replacing the pads and rotors and maybe the calipers, and considering getting Brembo rotors instead of OEM rotors... especially considering it's not all that much more expensive. Other info on stuff like brake pads and good anti-seize and such would be helpful too, but I don't want to be a bothersome :newbie: , I can do the research on my own, hehe. Hope you find the source of the squeal!

I've been having the same brake problems. I got OEM replaced with Raybestos payed like $50 for them, but I have this incessant grinding that is driving me crazy! What type of pads for the front would you guys recommend.

Nissan makes something although i dont know the name of it. You put it on the side of the pad that does not touch the rotor. It has a goldish color to it. It will eliminate all squeeks. I dont understand how it works cause it really doesnt make any sense but it really does. The only down side to it.... a bottle runs about 50 or so dollars. Ill find out the name tomorrow and will post it. Maybe your shop will have it or can get it?
