Pics of DIY red/clears + slight how-to with oven

Sure everyone has done it but how do you think they came out?
$5.80 for the light cover from home depot.

Used the oven method (200F for 12 minutes) with no problems pulling apart the cover (I think the reason some people might crack them is because there is a ever so small lip on the outer bottom corner that sits underneath a nitch in the back housing that has to be lifted up ... which isn't the direction you would be pulling it off in, I almost cracked them myself until i realized that's why they were stuck.)

I masking taped the old orange/red lenses together and traced tracing paper around the edge to make a perfect guide, which i permanent markered onto the light cover. Dremeled just outside the line and used 40 grit sand paper to quickly make them fit like a dream ... first try! (I used a head gun to heat up the cutout to form it to the shape to ensure it wouldn't snap... even a hairdryer would work for this purpose.)

Put them back together and then in the oven for about 4-6 minutes so that they could go back together and have the glue reseal, and put them back in my car. Wha La!

Eventually I will do the inners to match the pattern, but I don't think it looks bad anyways. Also, having removed the small red lense and the way I fitted the new one I absolutely LOVE how they lightup at dusk/night... the whole way is a very crisp orange down the the very little corner :grinno:

You lucky bastard, I did all four with a heatgun and cracked both trunk lights.

Nice job

Those look real good, how long did it end up taking you?

good job, but I think mine look even better. They are so perfect that you cannot even find 1/10 of a millimeter offset anywhere.

I'll have pics soon so I'll post let you see

However, so that your Max looks even better, I would suggest doing the other inner tails as well. That way everything will match up because right now I can really tell the difference between the two.

An average person won't see this, but whoever has the slightest idea about cars will be able to tell - trust me, been there, been told that... etc

It took longer then expected ... (about 5-6 hours) but only because the dremel i borrowed from my buddy had no power cord adapter and the battery died just as i finished up the first insert, so i had to wait almost 2 hours for enough charge to do the 2nd insert.
