A/C help... kinda long

well my A/C went out on me awhile back and i've held off on fixing it due to a recent move. now it's too hot in Socal and i need some help. i took my max in to get the A/C serviced when i first noticed it go out and they told me that my refrigerant levels were fine and that i didn't have any leaks. they said that it was an electrical problem. well he wanted to charge me all sorts of extra diagnostic fees and so i told him that i'd take it to another shop. i was just wondering if anybody has used those do-it-yourself A/C recharge kits from pepboys, napa, etc? any tips or advice before i do this? thx in advance!

Well it could be anything from a bad pressure valve or relay to a faulty compressor. Your best bet is to pay a shop to check the system out for you as it could be an easy fix. If don't have the tools or know how in regards to r134a systems, then you'll be wasting your time.

Some easy things to check are, do you ever hear the compressor click on? Is the compressor clutch actually engaging and spinning the compressor shaft? Do the fans come on when you turn the A/C on? Have you checked the associated fuses? Did the A/C go out all at once or gradually?

I am having the same problem. My a/c compressor does come on and the air blows somewhat cold sometimes but gets warm gradually. Any ideas?

i checked all the associated fuses and everything checked out. i switched the relays and that didn't work. i dunno! yeah, i thought i'd be wasting my time and money doing a recharge kit. oh well... thx for the advice!
