2000-01 Tranny in 1996?

I know there was alot of debate about whether or not this could be done with the existing axles and speedsensor's but did anyone do this succesfully w/o replacing the axles etc?

I am thinking of swapping in a 2k or 2k1 transmission, as mine is on the way out. What would I need on top of the actual transmission to make this work, and what are the benefits aside from a stronger tranny?

THANKS GUYS!!!!!!

I believe 4th gen axle will work with 00-01 5gen transmission since they're almost same transmission. differences are nothing important.

Differences are nothing important? How about a much stronger 3rd gear and no differential bearing issues to boot?? IMO, if you have to replace your 4th gen 5-speed there's no reason not to get a 5th gen tranny...

How much do you think shipping a tranny would cost considering i found a few on car-parts.com.

Also, thanks for all the good information. Would you all suggest going to the 2k or 2k1 tranny if I plan to supercharge next week just as a precaution?

OK i am waiting on the PM, but I might be interested in the nonLSD because I dont want to go through the hassle of finding all the necessary parts - unless you want to include them.

i have a 2k1 in my car but i just realized i never asked if it had ABS or not. My car has ABS, does the driver side axle work on ABS/non ABS 5 speed's or was i just lucky or did all 5th gens come with ABS?
