yeas, i did check it. one thing tho, i put in new bulbs ( 194), but i put one old one back in to double check if that was it, nothing. i wonder if i have the wrong bulbs and if so, do i have to have all 5 old ones in to work? i dont want to go to nissan and get charged a whole lot. anyone else? i will be back tomorrow. thanks for the input

see, i took out my dash to do some 'work' on it, i went to put my cluster in and everything is working ( even the little lights" o/d, airbag light, etc) just not the main cluster lights, the guages work. i thought, maybe since everything is out, i have to have the hazard lights, heater controls, and turn signal handle all hook up, still nothing. i checked all the fuses under the dash. i really dont want to go to nissan just yet, anyone?????
everything lights up, just not the cluster lights.
if anyone can come uo with the solution, i promise i will send you $20.
i just need it by 10:00 tonight, cause im just going to have to get "bentover" by nissan tomorrow.

Try removing the all five lights #194 bulbs take one bulb and hook a couple of wire to it and test to make sure it works at the battery, if so plug it back in the cluster, try in of the five different holes to prove any shorting on the back panel, did you have any lights on when you pulled the cluster initially? The fuse for the lights is a 7.5 amp there's only a few, but from what you are saying that can't be it or else all your hazard, red def lights would be out too! Do you have a light tester? If not solder a couple of leads to a working #194 bulb and check power at the back of the cluster close to where the bulbs mount. Good luck
PS don't want your money just want to help you out, what goes around comes around

i for sure will check that out at lunch, what if i solder em and there is no power at the cluster; where the lights mount? i will do this at 7:00.
also, every thing was off when i took everything out.

It may look too obvious compared to MAXRB8's suggestion, but If I were you I would take out each socket from the cluster and check the voltage using multimeter. You should be able to detect 12v voltage there and that way you can rule out sockets. I know it's unlikely that all the sockets died at the same time, but it sounds like that there is circuit short somewhere, and if that is the case, you need to pinpoint exactly where it occurs and only way to find out is to backprobe the circuit until you find it...

so i can just use a voltage meter and chack each socket and theres no power in em, its a short circut somewhere? i will do this and i guess if thats the case, i will try to back track it. lets say its a short circut, how do i fix something like that? im positive its not the fuse.

If you could pinpoint the source of the problem within the printed circuit that is attached to the back of the cluster, you can buy a new one (24814-40U00) from any Nissan dealer or online and replace it. Hopefully that is the case because if not, problem should exist beyond the cluster if this is indeed short circuit.

I had the same problem the other day and here is what I found. The guage lights will only work if you have the dimmer switch PLUGGED IN. I was working on the guages and had all the switches out while I did it. I turned on the lights and WTF, the bulbs were not lighting, but the other lights in the guage were. I was going crazy and for some reason decided to plug in the dimmer switch. Sure enough, they lit up.
There is a fuse under your dash that is for the guages I am 99.9% sure. Just look at the door that you take off to get to the guages. It will show you where it is. If you need me to look I can go outside and check for you. What I usually do (its a pain in the *** ,but is sure proof) I take each fuse out and check to see if it's blow. You will be 100% sure its not a fuse or is a fuse if you do it this way. If you need any more help, please feel free to contact me.
Hope that helped.

If it is the dimmer switch, then get ready to open your wallet! I just called pennical nissan online (great company to deal with by the way) and asked them about the dimmer switch and how much it costs. I noticed my bulb was burnt out in mine and I wanted it to light up. They dont just sell the small bulbs in those things, so you have to buy the whole switch. It was something like $56 for that little switch! CRAP, it can stay unlit!
