I don't need a tranny rebuild! :)

Well, my tranny has been driving fine for the last couple of days....hasnt slipped, and shifting was smooth as butter, with the occasional stutter, and i realized....the reason my tranny is slipping and shifting hard is because of the solenoids...the tranny fluid is red, doesnt smell burnt. The 1st CEL code I got was for the solenoid valve. I know you can get brand new ones for $140, but how much would it cost for labor? Could this be a possible DIY, or should i leave it for a trained professional?

Thanx.

Replacing the solenoid valves involves removing the valve body. This is not a difficult procedure, but you do have to be careful, and you have to be very, very sure you don't get any dirt or foreign objects on the VB. I wouldn't do this in the parking lot of an apartment complex, for instance.

I haven't even changed my own oil, but i think if i tried, i would be able to do it, hell, its not that hard....i've never done any automotive work, this is my first car...how much would a transmission shop charge?

A shop would charge a LOT. They'd probly tell you they have to drop the tranny just to get more $ from you. Since you're in the NE.....post in the regional forum about it...see what they say, and see if a local member is willing to help you out.
