this is the most comon thig in the world of cars... as said before, it is static of your body... it has to do with the weather out side, and the clothes tou are wareing, shoes, rubber.... do not be woried it is normal.
just like when you comb your hair, and you can feel the static on the comb....

Don't make a big deal out of nothing. Like the guys said, it is just static electricity. The same thing happens when the air is very dry and you touch just about anything metal (a doorknob).
SOLUTION:
Touch a metal part which would usually shock you BEFORE you start to get off the seat (when you brush off and out of the seat you create static electricity), that way the charge goes to the car without you feeling it.
Also if you are real sissy about those static shocks (like me, hah hah hah ) you can pass the charge by grabbing a key and touching it to the metal part. You will watch the spark go but wont feel anything.
I do that when I take off my coat in the winter and know I will get shocked when I touch something metal.
Of course, dont try the key thing with metal that has a LIVE charge or with cables.

My car does it all the time. Travelling through air creates friction and builds up static electricity.
Thanks for the tip Thorby. Getting shocked all the time gets old.
There used to be little wires that extended from the road to about a foot high at toll booths. Car touchs wire, discharges static eletricity = happy toll person.

I have leather seats... still happens to me.. it's jus not like once in a while.. it's like EVERYTIME i get out of my car.... i already know it's static electricity... obviously.. but... why does it happen in cold weather?
cuz it did happen to me once it started to get cold...

This happens because your pants are rubbing against the seat fabric (which is why those with leather don't have this problem). The solution is to go to the grocery store and buy the anti-static spray people use on clothes. You should be able to find it in the laundry detergent isle near spray starch. Anyway, spray it on your seats and the problem should be solved.

it is also te type of shoes you ware.... shoes with bottom rubber hold static i your body...
leather bottom shoes dischard the eletricity (ground wiht your feet basicaly...)
also you can alwyas use the window to close the door, (my mother does it all the time)
Entrppy -> I do that too, to everyone that I see, (when I know I will have static. I get really close to the person and watch the spark glow when it hits the person....)
HERE are some good places to shock other people:
1 neck (most painfull)
2 ears
3 shoking kiss (danger may hurt both involved)
4 elbow
5 arm
6 Nose (I never tryind to shok someone on the nose, but it must hurt)

ehm no. as many have already stated you still can get shocked if you have leather seats. i get shocked like crazy in my moms car with leather seats.
today i tried the suggestion of someone who posted above to touch the metal with a key, and i did, but i still got shocked and i was touching the plastic part of the key! what gives with that?
