LED's in dash
 

i recently changed the blubs in my gauges to white LED's... and i noticed some spots its brighter than others... im assuming its because of the actual gauges, that paper material theyre made of. can anyone help? also, does anybody have a writeup on how to put LED's in the gauge needles... because it looks much bettter with that.

as for the spots being brighter than others, theyre probably just hot spots

I actually got those 5 Led 194’s for the back of the gauges.

I bought them from superbrightleds.com

And I’m not happy with them at all.

They were great for about the first 20hrs.

But now they flicker when I turn them on, and the keep flickering occasionally. (only 2 of them)

I think their just poor quality Leds. But they do look nice!

is there anything i can do to get rid of the hot spots?

try LIGHTLY sanding the tips of the LEDS with the finest sandpaper you can find. Some people claim that it diffuses/refracts the light rays.

I have used LED 194's before for other stuff, not in my gauges yet but whenever I had a flickering problem, it wasn't the LED, it was the base of the LED bulb. It isn't quite as thick as the glass bulb so it fits a little loose at times. You can try one of two things, bend the little legs of the bulb that touch voltage just slightly so they "bulge" away from the base of the bulb making them fit snug, I usually just squeeze a pin under there and lift a little. Or you can get a couple of strands of speaker wire, like two or three and make a tiny flat circle, I wrap them on the tip of the little leg of a Bic pen cap, the part you always break off and then slide them off and flatten. Then take this tiny circle of wires and put it under one of the terminals of the LED bulb on one side and on the exact opposite terminal on the other side being careful they don't touch anything else other then ONE terminal. This makes them fit tight in the socket as there is more material now pushing the little leg against base for a more secure contact. That has always fixed my flickering problems. LED's don't flicker if they are bad, they just die and never come back so if they are flickering, chances are the LED itself is OK.
