Clutch replace and car won't start - also tranny seal question.
 

Ok. need some help.

I finally finished the clutch replacement but I can't get the car to start.

I've got everything back together again but when I tried to start the car up it turns over but won't catch.

It appears that everything required to get the starter to turn over is fine since the starter is going. That should mean the grounds are correct, the starter connections are ok, and the connectors are attached properly. Is it possible that there is still a problem with the starter even if it is turning over?

Any thoughts?

The items I can think of are the air intake system, the fuel system and the computer system.

All portions of my cai are properly attached and the connector is attached. I can smell fuel after attempting to start several times so I presume that there is no problem with the fuel.

The only thing I can think of is that during one of the hurricanes here in Florida a lot of moisture got in my garage - the starter and crank position sensor were sitting out. Could moisture have damages one or the other?

ALSO - I'm not sure I have the driver's side axle properly seated. I replaced the tranny seals (don't ask me why - it just caused me problems). Does anyone know if you should be able to see any of the seal once the axle is in?

Mmmmmm, check sensors once more, maybe you can find instructions somewhere to check them for resistance to see either they are still good.

Verify that the clutch interlock switch under the clutch pedal is working.

Dave - I thought that that would prevent the cranking too... i need to do some :reading:

that's what I was thinking too. Would it crank at all if that was a problem?

I am not exactly sure how it works with Maximas. I have done a couple swaps with Hondas though. I know on the Honda, their is a ground wire that connects to the tranny and will cause it to crank over but not start if you did not hook it back up. You might still have a ground problem somewhere. I've attached the tranny ground wire so I think I'm okay there and I believe I've gotten the rest of the grounds - hmmmm.

My bad. I didn't catch the part where he said could crank the motor over. I'd verify that all the electrical connections to the tranny are good and solid. Same goes for the grounds. Verify you have enough battery juice. Definitely look over the starter since you had to remove it and the car does want to crank over completely. Check the fuel pump fuse (odd this would blow though). Check to make sure all vacuum lines to the intake are good and secure as are all electrical connections. Anything that was removed/reinstalled or possibly bumped should be looked at closely.

Check crank position sensor (POS) which is located on the tranny bell housing. It looks at the flywheel for ignition timing. It's in the area which you've taken apart. If it's bad or cannot "see" the flywheel, you will get a no start condition.

I think we have a winner.

Turns out . . . .

That the car must have been flooded. BlackbirdVQ suggested that I floor it and start - apparently under that condition no gas goes to the engine. Bingo!

Also, I cleaned the crank pos and checked and redid all connections.
