How's your manual tranny holding up?
 

Just bought my 96 black/black SE, manual, loaded, ect. 96k mi, transmission shifts strong, no jerking no problems at all. How long is the life expectancy of the manual tranny?

on the 95-97 its less because of the differential bearing problem, of teh ones that fail, majority failed around 60k, others fail in the low 100, varies case to case, mine has 130k, im the 3rd owner, to my knowledge, and the 2nd owners knowledge, ther ewas never a differential bearing failure in my car. i have a 95

tranny is good except for the 2nd gear syncro problem, if I shift too fast from first to second I get a nice grind... btw I have a '96 se.

i have a 97 se and im on the 3rd tranny. but i was boosted for a while.

I have a '96 SE, and assume I had the diffy bearing problem...original (I think) tranny replaced at 133k, had 3-4 more trannies from 98-99's put in to find one that worked. I guess its the luck of the draw, I don't know.

at 130K my stock 1996 $hit the bed, just got a 2k and it has a busted 2nd gear syncro - so I have the pleasure of uninstalling it again (even though the di(k that sold it to me said it was fine...)

I have a 97 SE manual with 106,000 miles... no problems and still the stock clutch.

When I first bought my max it was extremly hard to shift into 4th gear at high rpms(probably why it was sold). I switched the fluid (redline mt 90) and seems to be alright now. Two weeks ago it was extremely hard to shift but it only happened one day. The other day my clutch pedal really soft. I hope this is all slave cylinder issues.

97 with 87k on original tranny and clutch. I've only had the car 10k miles. It's a bit touchy going into second when it's cold. Not "touchy", but you do have to beware of the synchros, and not throw it right into gear. Otherwise the tranny seems good.

well I have a 95 SE w/118,500 miles on it and the first gear synchro is shot. Will be replacing it this weekend with a 97 tranny. Hopefully won't encounter that problem again. Have a Exedy clutch that I put in around 100K miles. Bought the car when it had 88K miles on it.

The tranny in my 95 went at around 100k. My dad has a 97 and the trans was replaced somewhere around 50k-70k miles. But that car was turboed for a while so that might have something to do with it.

96 SE, at 96K differntial bearing problem and a worn input shaft so that tranny had to throw in the gargage. At the time I didnt know about the dearing problem so I replaced my tranny with another 96 tranny, now I think I'm suffereing again.

Need a 2k1 tranny (hopefully VLSD)

wow, Starting to sound like it would be better to buy an automatic.

the manual is fine unless you get diff bearing defect, and as far as I know not all trannys have it.
Car and Driver says the manual version of the car is much peppier though... read their review. They say that the automatic doesn't seem to have as much power (cuz it doesn't).

think about it this way... theres plenty of ppl trying to do auto to manual conversions but hardly anyone doing it the other way around.

owned my 99 for about 16000 miles. tranny felt great still does althought i installed a B&M short shifter so i am sure the tranny dislikes this but whatever

i have 130 k on my tranny and it works fine.only thing i had to replace on my car so far is the clutch which went out at 116k from racing

99 5 speed, 97k stock clutch/tranni.

knock on wood, clutch is slipping, anyone know a place in NJ that does it cheap and reliable?
