Who's running on wide wheels and tires?

Looking at either 17X8 or 18X8 or 8.5"... with at least a 245 tread width...thinking maybe 245/40...any suggestions...lightweight, relatively inexpensive wheels ....what is best offset without rubbing...I'll have (adj)coilovers, V2 w/3.12, Quaife, MEVI, JWT ECU @7k, Z32 MAF, WSP y-back 3", FSTB, RSTB, etc...wanna leave the door open for potential future brake upgrades...any input about good looking wheels I won't have to finance? Any experiences, etc...just tell me what you're running...wish I could start a poll...BTW is anyone running a 255?...that's not on heavy-as and/or uber-expensive 19s?

I have 17x8s on 235/45s, no problems whatsoever. With wide sticky tires note that you feel feel gouges in the road more. The wheels will have more power over the steering so the steering wheel will be more likely to turn if you hit a uneven road surface without your hands on the wheel). Once you get used to it, it's great.

i dont remember what is on the front of my max 255/40/18 maybe, but the rear is 275/35/18..... no rubbing in the rear.

http://home.ripway.com/2004-1/56560/HQ2.JPG I have 17x9s with a +34 offset..... the front rims are even with the fender I wish I had a little more offset in the front..... as for the tires.... I plan on running 255/40/17 all the way around...... currently I streched a set of 225/45/17s on the wheels .... I havent decided if I'm keeping them on the Max or putting them on my Z32 with "R" compounds for the track ....... and putting the Z wheels back on

I maybe wrong.. but anything wide than 235 will rub the wheel welds on the front... i got 235/40/18's which is a pretty good combo. 235's provide plenty of grip... i dont know anyone that has 245's+ on a max.. lemme know if U do

rubbing with larger tires is a offset problem.... I know orgers with larger tire combos.... one was running 17x9's with 265s .... I think he was upgrading to 18x10's with even bigger tires

Poor Man's Max Nov 13, 2004 05:53 PM

my dad had some 18x11's on his 92, he fabbed up some fender flares, it looked so horrible... ill try to find a pic

i said i have 255/40/18's on the front... only rubs during sharp turning.... no fender rub, and no rub with the 275/35/18's on the back.... on 18xsomethings.... 7.5 i think....

PTownMax Nov 13, 2004 06:09 PM

i got 18" by 7.5" with 245/45/r18's and my **** is the perfect tuck... with GC and Tokiko blues

MaxInProgress Nov 13, 2004 08:44 PM

I just got some 18's with i THINK +40 offset and I just also got 6 dunlop s9000 245/45/18 for free and was gonna wonder if i can put these on without them having to rub anything, im also doing the tociko illumina and eibach prokit in the future, most people say usually 235/40/18 is a perfect fit, but i dont want to sell these tires if I can put them on.

what offset and what wheels (brand)?...if you don't mind the inquiry...I'd imagine with the 7.5" wheel width and 245s the rim is less likely to get the brunt of road imperfections..I like my tire to be at least as wide as my wheel...just looks silly, IMHO to have 9" wide wheels with 215s or 225 stretched over, not to mention the increased likelihood of rounding the edges under hard cornering, especiallt over time...

how far off is your speedo?

running 255/40/18s?...and it is highly unlikely, though still possible, you have a 275 on a 7.5" wide rim...likely an 8" or 8.5"...BTW, what is your offset? F/R=+mm?

lol tilley just informed me they are 18x8's but i think the offset is still 35mm....only cause they dont fit over tilleys 300zx rotors, and i think that 38+ is supposed to fit, but i could be wrong

95maxrider Nov 14, 2004 04:38 PM

I had some 18x7.5 SSR rims, and now I ride on 17x8 Enkei RPM2 wheels with 235/45/17 Pirelli tires. Rides pretty well, but you do feel more road imperfections, but it's worth it.
