power locks don't work when car off
I have an odd problem: My door locks don't work if the car is off. When the car is on, the locks work perfectly. Do you guys think it might be a fuse or do you think that the wiring to the battery is disconnected somewhere? If it is a disconnected wire, how could i fix it?

do you have any type of aftermarket alarm system in there? you gotta give more info...

no aftermarket equipment.. the car is completely stock. I bought the car used and its had the problem from the beginning. if the key is in the "on" or "started" position, the locks work well. If I turn the key onto the "off" position or pull the key out of the ignition, the locks don't work.

I don't know how much this is gonna help but the wiring of the doorlocks goes like this (w/o stock alarm)....
By default its a 5V DC constant and gets grounded upon unlocking or locking. There are three wires, one for unlocking just the drivers door, one for unlocking all the doors and one for locking all the doors. I never hooked my alarm's dome light wire up because dome light does its own sorta thing. When I take key out the ignition the dome light turns on. When I unlock my doors with the aftermarket alarm the dome light comes on and when I lock the doors with alarm the dome light turns off. When I get in the car and put the key in the ignition and start the car the dome light turns off. I think your wires are screwed somewhere. It looks like they aren't getting voltage when your car is off. |
