What lug nuts do you guys recommend that won't rust?
hi
I'm in the market for new lug nuts. I got a flat last night, tried taking the wheel off and couldn't, for the first time EVER! The lug nuts where completely rusted and deteriorated. The guys at discount tires took the wheel off for me, but also had some trouble, and I paid $0.0. Anyway, are there lug nuts that won't rust as fast? I know that all lugs will probably rust etc., but any particular brands you guys could recommend? The ones I have on lasted me about a year and I bought them at Autozone - never again! Thing is, Chicago winters are really harsh so I need lugs that can take it. Stainless steel lugs would be good but I don't think they make them, or do they? Thank you all in advance. |
Put anti-seize compound on the lug studs, that will keep the rust away.

so if I go to Autozone and ask for anti-seize compound for lug studs they will know what I mean?

They better know. That's not a rare product for any auto parts store to carry.

McGuard Splinedrive lug nuts. Not cheap at around $100 a set with locking lugs. Made out of Aluminum so rust shouldn't be a problem.

Honestly, I would advise you not to get the aluminum lugnuts. Those ebay ones are a glamour product. Aluminum does not have the strength of steel, it is not going to stand up to impact wrenches as well. That anodized coating is going to scratch up. You can still have corrosion between aluminum and steel.
The McGard lugnuts are a good product, but pricey. Unless you take your wheels on and off all the time, I'm not sure they are worth it. Just get good quality chromed steel lugnuts and use some anti-seize. There's no magic bullet here. |
I think I will do that, thank you MilesA and others

McGard makes the best ones I have ever used. I havent hade them rust on any of my vehicles. Once I bought Gorrilla lug nuts but they rusted in a few months. the McGards will last

Don't get open ended lugnuts :wall: Seriously, they kept seized up on me 4 tires = 4 new studs at different times. Bought a set of Gorilla closed-end tuner lugs, never had a problem since..
