My maxima's handling sucks!!

hey guys, i dropped my maxima with dropzone lowering springs (2" drop in the front 2" drop in the rear) and i have kyb gr-2 shocks, not only does my ride quality suck, (i getting the kyb agx next week, thank god) but my handling is even worst. i have a strut tower bar and got my wheels aligned and balanced since changing my struts but my max still handles poorly. any suggestions on how i can correct this problem or at least make it somewhat better??????? thanks!

mzmtg Dec 27, 2004 10:27 AM

Get different springs. That low of a drop is leaving with too little wheel travel. Raise it up with some Eibachs or H&Rs and you will be amazed how much better it handles overall.

A set of strut mounts in the rear (from me :D ) will also make a huge difference in both ride quality and handling.

i got the tokico adjustables and h&r springs handling is beautiful but you do sacrifice the smooth ride.2" drop is alot though

H&R and Illuminas is probably the most comfortable ride your going to get on our cars when it comes to aftermarket springs and shock combo.

liqidvenom Dec 27, 2004 03:08 PM

we drive a fwd 4 door grocery getter, good handling in our sense is relative

ive got a 1.5 inch drop all around with gr's in the front and tokio blues in the back. i cant complain about the handleing at all, i think its nice and smooth and fun to drive. feels like i am on rails at speeds over 40... hmmmm mzmtg seems right

do not get KYB AGX - they are even much harsher then GR2, it gets pretty cold in NY so those AGX's will get stiff and harsh , and no matter how much you play with AGX setings - you'll never be happy.

Leave your GR2's , get H&R springs and you''ll like driving your car again

been there , done that

Nick.

coilovers :wall:

I30tMikeD Dec 27, 2004 04:16 PM

It most likely a combination of your expectations, springs, and maybe your tires. Change one of the three

chipobrien Dec 27, 2004 05:27 PM

Have H&R springs, the cheap tokico, FSB/RSB. Ride suffered, so I stayed with 15" rims till this past June, switched to 16" Falken Ziex 512's (225/55/16) on Konig Reigns and ride is now sweet again. Who wouldda thought....

Handles great, people are amazed when they drive it. (99 GXE 5 Spd)

nice car man ! what type of rims are those ?

ManualMaxima Dec 29, 2004 08:38 AM

why would AGX be harder tan the GR-2's. It depends on whereyou set it. on the softest AGX setting it is suppose to be 40% softer than stock. GR-2's are just a stock replacment strut. i migh tbe wrong but i wold think if you had it set softer the AGX's would be alot softer thna the gr-2's

MDeezy Dec 29, 2004 08:50 AM

from what I've read the AGXs can go from the lowest setting 10% stiffer than stock up to 30%-40% stiffer than stock. Gr-2s are 15% stiffer than stock

thanks, i'll take all of this into consideration. in the end i'm just gonna change my shocks to raise my car up a lil bit and go with either the kyb agx's or the tokico illuminas. hopefully that'll help my situation. (tired of riding around in nyc and feeling as if i'm riding on a skateboard and not in a maxima).

New shocks won't change your ride height any. Springs are what hold the car up.

cute chicks always have fat friends

IMHO, tires make the biggest difference in handling. When I switched to Toyo T1-S's from my "old school' BFG Euro TA's, it made the car completly different. As far as suspension, I have the GC coilovers with KYB AGX's. The fact is it will never handle like a well balanced RWD car.

maxspeed96CT Dec 29, 2004 02:12 PM

tires make a huge diffrance.

And the 2" drop doesnt make you handling bad, its the name brand drop zone.. get some new springs , a rear sway bar and some 18s.
