help! fixed oil leak- now getting check engine light!
 

today i went to fix my slow oil leak, which was coming from the oil pressure sending unit. that went fairly well, but after i replaced it, i couldn't start the car.

my friend came over to see if he could help me figure out the problem. we tried putting the old unit back in, changing around the wiring... nothing worked. then, i remembered a connection that i had accidentally undone earlier- a small plug on the passenger side of the oil pan.

i put this in snugly (i thought i had connected it earlier, but it wasn't in all the way) and the car started up. i turned it off and we went to secure all the wiring.

when i started it up again, it started very hard, made a loud "duck-quacking" noise, and i had a check engine light. i turned it off and started it again, and it wasn't as bad, but still made the noise and still had the cel.

i pulled the code and it came up 0407- crankshaft position sensor. i read the sticky, but i still don't know how it's related. the oil pressure sending unit seems to be working fine, though. no leaks and the light goes off like it's supposed to.

is this related? should i clear the code and hope for the best? any input?

i looked in my manual and i guess the thing i unplugged and then reconnected was the REF crankshaft position sensor (as opposed to the POS cps... i don't know the difference). would cranking the engine with this unplugged damage it? or damage something else?

i dont know if that was a ghost code from before. our cars tend to have problems but the ecu sends the code when it wants to. usually something else triggers it off

If you know how to reset your Ecu do that, If not, take a ride to Autozone around your area, they have free ODBII reading. They can Reset the ECU. Good luck.
