Did some cleaning of the beater's nasty interior with pics

I took some before and after pics of some of the interior cleaning I did on my beater today. Today has been one of the only days that I have had enough time, and has been warm enough, for me to do some work on the beater's interior. These things are the bulk of what was nasty about the interior, besides the fact it needed vacuuming more than any car I've ever seen. I vacuumed it too but didn't take any pics of that. Also put armorall on all the plastic/vinyl after installing the pieces I took pics of.

Also of note, and something I will have to take pics of at some point, is the mindbogglingly asinine wiring job which was done by the previous owner to retrofit Bose to this GXE. It is honestly the most convoluted and ugly wiring job I've ever seen. Anyways here are the before and after pics of the grossness and relative cleanness afterwards.

Just a scrubby sponge and hot water. I held the headunit upside-down (so the face was facing down and water would leak into the radio) and wrung the sponge out pretty well before scrubbing.

good results, it was spooky dirty in their. it may just be a beater but damn, it can be a clean one! :p

Nealoc187 Jan 25, 2005 08:34 PM

FYI I bought the car this way for $1100, I wouldn't let a car get this way myself. It has just been too cold to clean it in the last month. Today it was "warm" at 34 degrees.

Bastard. . . :wall:

I consider you guys lucky who has been able to pick up a max for ~$2,500 or less, and do certain repairs and have a lovely fully working 4th gen, If I had gotten such a deal I'd have more money in my pocket, and more for modding.

just venting. . . :faint:

i bought my max for $2.5k w/ 75k in ny. it had a very minor front end collision w/ clean title. i had money to paint it and replace the parts to make it looks like new but i spent it on preformance parts, os my car still looks like sh!t ill fix it up one day

lilaclucymaxima Jan 26, 2005 05:48 AM

nice job... even beaters need to be clean

Black Maxima Jan 26, 2005 07:41 AM

Ok, now that looks a lot better! :D

When I got my Maxima, the center console was pretty dirty so I tried to wash it while it was still in the car. But, there was till crap in between all the nooks and crannies. The pocket under the arm rest was all sticky inside, I couldn't put anything in it. Finally when I did clean the center console I put it in the bath tub and poped out the change holders and took off the arm rest. After some dish soap and shampoo, it looks reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaal clean now...

I used the bathtub too, but no soap or shampoo. Just hot water and a scrubby sponge. My goal is to be able to promote the beater from beater status to daily driver status. It is of course my daily driver in the winter, but I want to be able to drive it without embarrassment. The interior is pretty much good to go at this point except for the side vents (and the windows need a good spray of glass cleaner). The exterior still needs major help though. New hood, fender, grille, corner lamp and paint on about 80% of the car, and it will look like like a perfectly normal 4th gen that's never had a problem. Of course once that's done I will probably start modding it like a dumbazz.

If you are talking about the whole middle center console with the arm rest you have to unscrew 4 screws. Pop up the trim around the shifter. You will have to put the car in Neutral to get the trim out without bending. Then, you will see 2 gold screws right underneath the ash tray on each side. After that, push both the driver and passenger seats up. There are 2 screws in the back of the center console near the carpet. The whole thing is now loose. You will have to slide the e-brake boot over the handle.

The arm rest can unscrew from the console. Just look at it an you'll know how to. The change/switch holders pop out and can be popped back in.

Hope that helped.
