I'm Looking for the quietest all season tire with good treadwear for a 235/45 -17 borbet type E wheel set up.
My wife has SP5000's on her stock 5spoke 225/50-16 Rims and they're great. Anyone know how much harsher the ride is when going up to the 17" wheel size in the SP5000's.

What about Yokohama's Avid H4

I have the SP5000s in 235/45/17 and they are excellent.

Your ride will deteriorate considerably with 17" rims. But the tradeoff in handling is worth it, in my opinion.

I've had the SP5000's 235/45-17 for a couple of weeks now and I love them. They are queit and great in the rain. The tread wear is also higher than the Avids.

If you want high performance, all season versatility, and a VERY quiet tire, check out the Yokohoma AVS dB line of tires. I am running them on my 3rdGen and they are outstanding! Very good bang for your hard earned buck too.

Drove a new set this winter through some serious snow in New England and they were great. Plowed through foot high drifts and down snow packed roads. They don't hydroplane at all in deep rain, are great in dry weather, and they are quiet.

Completely agree with you about the Pirelli P7000SS. I'm more amazed by these tires every day.

I have a question. What PSI are you running in your wife's sp5000s?

I'm considering these tires and I was just curious, how's the tread life? I'm considering these, and Kumho ECSTA Supra 712, which is almost $50 cheaper, so if it's worth it to spend the extra $200, I might go for the Pirelli P7000SS.

Sorry about the late reply Nick, Windows Me has been running like crap and somehow locked me out of Windows 2000. The Pirelli P7000SS has a tread life rating of 320, which puts it on the higher end of the performance tread life scale. I only have 5000 miles on mine and they still are quiet and just as grippy, so I couldn't tell you when to replace them. They are about 150 for 235/45-17s, even though I got 225/45-17.

The Kuhmo's on my 18's and i love them , ride is obviously harsher with an 18in rim, but the tires are cheap as hell, have a long tread wear rating, and stick like glue when it rains.

Wow, that low PSI. When I autocross I usually bump mine up to 49, and I end up forgetting to air them down. I dont have any problems, just that they might wear funny. However, I am running 225/50R16 SP5000s on my stock rims and I like them a lot. They are a nice handling tire. I am going to get 18s with Nitto NT-555s on there, and I heard that they are the best tire for the money.

Well, theres my 2 cents.

I am using Michelin Pilot XGT Z4s on my 2001 AE. Tire size is 225/50ZR17. I could not be happier with these tires. They are quite, they grip in dry and wet. The only time I drove them in snow was on my old Mitsu 300GT VR-4 (245/40ZR18) and they kicked butt (of course AWD helps, but the summer tires were worthless in snow). The Michelin Pilot XGT V4 is the same pattern and construction with a different compound (the Z4 is dual compound) giving better wear life and giving up some performance.

The Michelin Pilot XGT H4 is probably the best performance tire for a Max that will be used every day. A friend of mine lives his wife's H4s on their Mercedes E-class. He can tell a huge performance difference over the stock tires (Pirellis or Contis) and they wear like nails (more that 60K with wear left) too. I highly recommend any of these tires for the Maxima. Just choose the one for your driving style.
