Read FAQ, can't search, ?'s on 99 SEL
I'm looking at a 99 SE Limited Edition (I'm guessing that's what the SEL stands for on here) and had a few questions. Just for the info, it has 123k miles and is an auto.
1. What's so special about the Limited Edition? It doesn't seem to have any features that a normal SE wouldn't have except an added emblem. 2. Did the 99's have any problems or anything I should look at? 3. This Cali spec equipment, what makes it harder to work on or less powerful? Did it add some EGR junk or an extra cat or something? I'm not sure if this one is Cali spec but just in case. The car is in really good condition and the guy wants under $6000 for it so it seems like a pretty good deal. I don't plan on modding it except for maybe a K&N drop-in and maybe rigging up something to get rid of the snorkel. First thing I'd do is add a tranny cooler. That's about it. |

Crimson Blaze (red) is an option for 99 SELs. 99s have coil pack problems sometimes. http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....&highlight=sel The Knock sensors go bad on all 4th gens. FAQs The CALI emissions stuff is not a huge deal. The front exhaust manifold has a big precat. There are small but expensive gains from swapping it to one without but most don't or just get headers (more expensive). There are a few other things. You can remove them if you like. One of the main disadvantages of a 99 is that and ECU modification is not available. |
There are a lot of things to do to stock airbox to make it flow a little better. FAQs.
IIRC a tranny cooler is not really necesary unless you have other tranny mods like a Valve body mod (shift kit). There is a stock tranny cooler in the bottom of the radiator. |
1. SE-L badges, different colors, SE-L stitched into seats, different gauges, mats, and the pride of owning one :)
2. Like said above, coil pack issues and good luck trying to change a knock sensor with the Cali 3. Same as above For the price, it doesnt sound bad at all... I bought my 96 with 27k miles 2 years ago for 7k... I'd even sell you mine when I finish paying it off for 6k if I could... |
Well after reading the link above, it looks like maybe this one isn't an SEL. It has cloth interior, white face gauges (can't quite tell), and chrome wheels instead of the leather, titanium face gauges, and titanium colored wheels. The color is Sterling Mist, so I'm not sure if this is limited to the SEL's or not (doubt it). I'll post some pics so that maybe ya'll can identify if this is an SEL or not.

Why wouldn't you buy such an immaculate MA car in such a fantastic color |
Because green cars are atrocious

I found out the car is not Cali spec :)

So since the car is NOT Cali Spec, the only thing really to worry about on the 99's are the coil packs? I'm guessing those are easy to change out so I guess that's not too bad.
