Anyone with Auto's experience this?
 

This is ?? for those with Auto Transmissions.

Upon approaching a stop sign or any slowdown scenario where I don't come to a complete stop, where I then accelerate my trans sometimes acts like it didn't downshift and I am trying to accerate in 3rd gear or something. I don't experience this on complete stops at all, just when not completely stopping before reaccelerating and it doesn't happen every time.

If I gas it a bit more it kicks in and goes, but I'm a bit worried about it and what it means. Is it normal? Or does it signal a future problem?

I've got a couple weeks left on my warranty with the dealer, so if this scenario isn't normal then I need to take it back and tell them something is amiss. The car has 35,500 miles on it as of now and shifts fine in all other ways.

That's normal. If you dont come to a complete stop, it will start again in second gear.

its normal unfortunantly, annoying but the only solution is a 5 speed.

does blehmco's grounding kit really solve this problem?

Uhh....well I'm happy to know it's normal, but I'm not sure this club has the exclusivity I was hoping for. lol :)

Yup- I posted almost a verbatim post a year ago. It is normal... I really thought my tranny was messed up. I also have a 99 SE-L.

well... in a 5spd, when slowing down, if you dont completely stop (1-2 mph) it's really hard to get into 1st gear. Atleast this is the case for me. Stopping completely will make it alot easier to put into 1st.

As for the auto, I just completely stop.:)

haha, i've been wanting to ask this for a long time, i figured it was normal! (also, maybe its just in my head, but i think i noticed it get lets sluggish after a drain and refill, of only 3.5qts)

it sucks but then again in traffic i dont miss shifting every other min....these guys with 5sp's will fill the pain one day ya know...... bad knee and all

o shiet its normal? i thought i had to do a trannyflush, or maybe all them dam nuetral drops

my knees are fine thank you very much kc10fish. And yes, I do get to put it anywhere. Though in the 2mph-15mph, it is difficult to put it back into first, so usually in this case I end up starting my second myself as well.

you know even though it starts in 2nd from a rolling stop, it shouldnt be sluggish like that, i mean its normal to our vehicle, but it sucks it revs to like 2k RPM yet slowly accelerate. i hate it, its embaressing!

same sh*t to my car. is there any way that it will shift to 1st gear. my maxi from kind of stop like this starts from 3rd gear or 2nd

yaa ... we discussed this last month abt two things that we guys with autos gotta live with viz.,

1. the downshifting complained in the first post

2. the jerky 1st to 2nd gear change

with respect to the 1st problem, I thought even Hyundai makes better transmission ;-) I rented a Sonata recently, and it was funtastic. I drove my friend's Elantra and even that is fine with its inline 4 engine. I heard that even the new G35 tends to show this slow downshift symptom, is that true ? I wanted to know if nissan addressed this issue atleast in the 6th gen maxima.

Yes, I suppose I could come to a complete stop at all stop signs, but sometimes my foot is ahead of my brain. lol :)

mine too:) i hate to stop on stop sign, thast loosing time, brakes, gas and transmission.

yeah.. i agree it does have to do with our sluggish trannys.. i have noticed that with the blehmco grounding kit that it responds better when it does down shift (it downshifts quicker instead of waiting for a sec or two).. it doesnt totally get rid of the problem.. but it does help out considerably.. another key factor is that ecu adapts to the way that you drive.. meaning that if you normally are just pokin along then it wont downshift as fast.. but if you are normally pushing it to where it downshifts.. then it responds quicker.. but again like i said it doesnt totally get rid of it.. i think it has something to do with the tranny ecu and/or just the gear ratios.. it sux.. but hey you get over it like everyone else has stated.. but no its nothin going wrong/bad on your car.. dont worry we are all in the same situation

I would still do a flush if your mileage is up there......I agree I don't like it, but I live with it.......

I had the same problem people.This is what i did for that jerky 2 to 1 downshift that occurs when i slow down to go round a city block.I tightened the throttle and cruise control cables a bit. I turned the max off and i unplugged the tps harness from the sensor. I turned the max on and i bumped up the idle to 1200 rpms plug the harness back to the tps and watched the idle fall to 850 rpms.I then turned the max back off and disconnected the negative battery cable,connect the cable, disconnect the cable and connect it again to reset the ecu.It never fails the cd and cassette always pop out when i do this.Tighten up the negative cable and get on the road and rev the hell out of that engine to teach the ecu to give u an aggressive timing.You will then see that your car is more peppy and it will dramatically reduce that 2 to1 downshift jerk.

If you push the accelerator down far enough, itll downshift lol. Itll be a hard shift, but itll do it.

isnt the 6th gen a cvt?

After reading this I am almost happy that my S/C blew my auto tranny. Going in tomorrow to get a manual swap.

I remember when I was n/a, I lost badly to a RSX type s because the car refused to down shift from 4th to 2nd for 5 or so seconds.

These transmissions are broken from the factory.
