heat doesn't work
Just discovered another problem yesterday...
96 SE, automatic heat control.... While sitting in a warmed up car, temp set at 85F... heat just stopped comming out of the vents! The air was still gushing, but ... it just wan't warm... What do you guys think? thx |
Do you have enough antifreeze in the radiator? Check that. 85 should blow out 100% heat. If it's not coolant related this will cost you $$.
|
why they hell did you have it on 85 to start with? :wtf:
|
There's only two things that can cause this... The heater core is not getting hot, or the blend door is not in the correct place.
|
check the coolant level...make sure the car isnt hot when you check it(just had to be sure to say that). whast your temp gauge reading? like scruit said, the blend door culd be stuck in a certain position. do you hit normal temp? if it stays on cold, then your thermostat might be stuck open.
|
make sure its on auto
|
why would auto make a difference. auto uses the AC compressor to dehumidify. Econ will blow out wahtever temp you tell it to consistently without using the AC components.

wow thanks. |

I usually do. Chicago is pretty cold this time of year, you know... Matter of fact, it's always on 85... I will check the coolant level, just to be shure, and let you guys know... thx How do I check the termostat and.. the heater core..? thanks again. |
foremost, just go check if the radiator is full, dont theck that plastic bottle, that wont tell you anything.
the temperature gauge will be indicative of whether the thermostat is functioning. if the temp gauge doesnt hit between H and C, then your overcooling and the t-stat is problaby stuck open, and that might be why you are getting no heat. if your temp gauge is between H and C, then the blend door that controls how much hot mixes with cold may be stuck in the completely cold position. it could be other causes, but until you've check the other things, theres no way to make assumptions on the differnt possibilities. |
so far,
i know for a fact that the temp gauge is normal, meaning car reaches normal temp (that means that termostat is k?) |
hehe
found out the coolont was gone and... it seems that the coolant tank has a hole in it!!! |
Good work. Say thank you to all the nice people
