What is your transmission status?

No noticeable change in slight left transmission seal leak since March 1 posting. Will continue to monitor situation. Car has 58,475 mostly highway miles on it and as it is a Canadian model with LSD, I am not concerned about the dreaded differential bearing problem peculiar to many 95/96 models.

92K with original 5spd tranny and clutch. Was leaking gear oil like mad until I had the axle seal replaced. I noticed that the bearings are indeed worn badly. It has been a couple of weeks since I replaced the seal and it doesn't leak yet....I know its coming though. The funny thing is that the car drives like a champ but I know the tranny is a time bomb waiting to go off. Throw a finger in the air for the engineers that designed the 4th gen 5spd transmission!

Stock tranny and clutch currently at 141k miles. The clutch probably would have gone longer had it not for the rear main seal. I'll be replacing the clutch and seals next week when my 5th gen clutch kit arrives.

Original auto, 110,000 miles, no leaks, no problems. I have a lead foot, but I don't beat my car by any means. Damn, reading about all these problems with the manuals is actually making me happy about having a slushbox instead of a stick.

Origional auto, 101000 miles w/no problems which is suprising since I run the S out of my car 3-4 days out of the week and have DR mod on manual switch and I have not gotten around to installing a tranny cooler yet.

What is up with these rebuilt trannys at 60K. I have 1996 Maxima with 120K and 1993 Camry V6 with 180K all with the original trannys and both are auto. If my tranny went out at 60K I would never drive that brand of a car. I would still be pissed of at the Toyota if my tranny went out at the 180K what my car has.

It's because some people beat on their transmission and are all delusional or on denial about it. My '95 SE is at around 150k and never had any problems, just replaced the clutch about 5 months ago. I almost never race my car and almost never pop the clutch. I had a 3rd gen Maxima and that transmission lasted about 200k miles before the tranny went to hell but that car was automatic and part of the problem was TCU related. Automatics do not last as long as manual trannies especially if you drive it like a manual transmission. People seem to think that such practice is harmless to the transmission.

But we're not supposed to do rolling stops anyway, right?
