I have a moderate vibration as i disengage the clutch on my 97 SE, but only at low RPMs, usually when starting in 1st gear. I had the same exact problem on my 95 SE after rebuilding the tranny. The shop said that it is common on Maximas, i doubt it. Any ideas what the problem is? Are the shaft bearings going? Do the shafts need to be rebalanced?
when they replaced the clutch disc on my 95 after i complained about the vibration, the one they took out had two hot spots symmetrically opposite each other. wierd. the R&R did not fix the problem though...

Hey man, common on Maximas?: Anyway, you need a clutch. A whole assembly, a disc, plate, throw out bearing. I had the same vibration in my 93 SE and took it to my mechanic, who's a Nissan Master Tech. He put a clutch in, and vibration gone! Be sure to get the whole assembly, not just the plate. Good luck.

Hey, letting the clutch ( dis-engaging ) out, usually just when starting in 1st. Vibration while engaging clutch? Could be the same thing or something else. Lets hope someone else replies to this thread. I don't want to mis-lead you. But vibration letting clutch out, is definitely the clutch. Good luck to you.

FYI - disengaging == pushing clutch pedal down; engaging == letting clutch pedal up
Did they cut your flywheel when they r&r'd the clutch?
Where do you feel the vibration? In the pedal? Does the whole car shake?

the vibration is when i engage the clutch in first gear, the whole car vibrates, but the strongest vibration is coming from the tranny/engine area. this is only in low RPMs in first, sometimes second, gear, and only as I engage the clutch. not when its fully engaged

I have heard people talking about the vibration we are discussing being caused by engine mount, too. Can anyone please enlighten us? I live in Cincinnati where there is a lot of uphill starts, sometimes it'll take a full second for the vibration to settle down and clutch to engage. Very frustrating!

yes, it gets very violent in my case when starting in first uphill. it feels as if the clutch is unbalanced, but that wasn't the case in my old max because after R&R same thing kept happenning.
