I've got a strange noise here...

Hey Everybody,

I'm starting to hear a strange noise when I'm braking and also when I'm making a left hand turn. I don't really know how to explain it but its kind of a creaking/thunking noise. Also, when I drive over bumps/rough patches of pavement the front wheels make more of a pronounced thunking noise. Does anybody else have this or know what it could mean? I don't know if the two sounds are related or not. I don't know much about cars mechanically but I was thinking the thunking could maybe be the struts. Any advice would be appreciated before I bring it in to the mechanics. Thanks! :gotme:

it might be your axle. Check out http://www.raxles.com/troubleshooting.aspx it has a list of things that sounds kind of like what your talking about. I had to replace my Passenger side about a 2 weeks ago and now my drivers side is going..

Our potholes in town have been ridiculous and one night a few weeks ago I hit one pretty hard. Maybe that damaged something...

Is this an expensive fix? I think it might be the axle cause I've also had the vibrating at highway speeds.

look at the rubber boot on the inside of the wheels. they are probaby cracked or the bellows are open. probably means new CV joints...

At raxles.com depending on the side it cost 120 for drivers side and 150 for passenger side. I had my passenger side replaced and they charged me 475ish. But i think i can do the drivers side myself now that the weather is nice outside.
