are OEM brakes alright for 18's wheels?

ive been told the OEM brakes wont hold up if u have bigger aftermarket wheels.....is this true? i have 18's and i will be replacing my front brakes very soon.....i am probably goin to need new rotors and pads....what do u guys recommend and where should i buy?
