update: my autos teacher had a meeting today, so we were unable to use the tools  so we went out and bought all the necessary bolts and nuts today, cost me 13 bucks cuz theyre "fine threaded" or whatever... anyway, tomorrow we're good to go, ill update then... thanks for all your help guys

lilaclucymaxima 04-08-2005 09:56 AM

final update: we installed it today. it was a b!tch to get the bolts on the y-pipe -- catalytic converter out because of all the corosion. but it took us a while and the new y-pipe is on. its LOUD at idle and whenever i am driving. no "bees in a can" noise though. all i hafta do now is reset the ecu... does anybody by any chance know how to do that? i read my haynes manual, is "clearing the codes" resetting the ecu? or can i just disconnect the negative terminal of my battery?
thanks for all your help guys

There's one sticky all about checking/resetting the ECU. What couldn't you find?

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=104931

RESETTING THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT

To reset the engine light is a simple procedure.

1. Turn the selector screw clockwise to its stop.
2. Wait 2 seconds.
3. Return back by turning the screw counterclockwise to its stop.
4. IMMEDIATELY REPEAT steps 1 to 3.

The next time you start your engine, the check engine light should go away!

i was confused as to whether "clearing the codes" after that check engine light thing was the same as just resetting it, thanks

 gotcha! Yea man, it's the same. You enjoying that Y-pipe yet? It's one of my favorite mods :)

I'm wondering which one I should get. What is the difference between the budget one and the super flow?

the super-flo doesnt use the traditional flex-pipe. it uses a spring loaded ball-joint kinda flex pipe, look at the picture of it on ebay and you'll be able to see the difference. plus, the super-flo only comes in aluminzed steel, the budget are stainless steel. other than that, the price is the only difference, but its not much

mine does not have the bees in a can sound, it has not been proven yet that it flows better than normal y-pipes..
