Transponder Key

Both of my keys broke where the keychain attaches. I found several places where they sell new keys with the chip (transponder) however they list it for 2000+ maximas. I know for the 1999 it was optional. The keys look identical for what I can see. Does anyone know if the 2000+ key will work? Thanks.

any luck with your 2k key? i bought one of ebay and its a bit longer. didnt have a chance to bring it to the dealer to get cut. do i need to bring all of my current keys?

When I purchased my 99 it only came with 1 key So I went to the stealer ship to get 2 more made. 1 for a spare and 1 for the remote starter bypass

I am almost sure a 2k+ key WONT work... a different transponder system was introduced for one of the 2k+ model years. The key has a different colored chip (should be blue, whereas ours is black). That denotes an entirely different, INCOMPATIBLE system. I have a 99 Max, my mom has a 2k.

yea i went to the dealer and they said it might not work. they charge $45 to cut and program the key and you need all of your existing keys and remotes (which i didnt have with me). I am just going to return the key that I bought from ebay and bite the bullet and buy a key $50 and get it cut $45 at the dealer.

I know that these keys cost an arm and a leg
i went to the nissan stealership and for 2 keys and a new key fob for my 99 it was 430 bucks canadien
good luck with that

I just used epoxy and glued a piece of plastic over the top of the key. now i can use my key on a keychain again. it looks ugly as hell but it did the job.

For those of you who can get to Brooklyn, go the DMV here they make keys for $35 each . I just got 2 done for my 99 max and they work perfectly.

I bought 2 spare keys with cutting and programming for $74 at Street Keys. The keys works great but the only negative is that it is an after market key which, for whatever reason, is double the thickness. All in all, I was very happy with everything.

Hey MystA RavE, you have any more info on that. I'm in BK and would like to get this done asap. Do they have the keys also, because the key that I have is a 2000 that I got from e-bay. Also which DMV there are 2 out here. Thanks
